Default Groundhog Day

Well, I haven't seen it posted yet, so I thought I would. Anyone else watch "Groundhog Day" starring Bill Murray every year on Feb. 2? Are there any other calender-related movie traditions that you enjoy - "Independence Day", "Halloween", etc.?

Love this movie. I want to read the original story it is based on though since it's supposed to cover many many years of repeating the day.

I should get groundhog day some time this year, great movie!

I used to watch Austin Powers movies when I was younger for my birthdays, but not anymore and I don't know why I did it....
Speaking of bday, I'm turning 25 next week

You will be as old as my daughter! Groundhog Day is one of my favorite movies, because in addition to being funny (I think it is Murray's best performance), it hits on a couple of philosophical levels. One of course is being able to see the effect your actions have on others and the outcomes that result from your choices; the other relates to notions of reincarnation and karmic consequences, for those who subscribe to such things. Either way, very interesting concept and well executed.

Good post and something I haven't really thought of, I loved this as a kid/young teen and I haven't seen it since I've grown older but I know this is one of the movies I'll still love.
This won't age badly like Big Trouble in Little China or stuff like that, looking forward to see it again.
My favourite Bill performance is Lost In Translation to be honest.

I was going to, but I ended up having to work early today. I'll have to watch it again some other time when I'm not so tired. Maybe next year I'll get to watch it on the actual Groundhog Day.

This is the greatest movie of the 1900s. Believe it.

would that be 1900-1909?

great film though (Yes I own it) but it's a "guy's" film. I have never met one single woman/girl that liked this film yet every guy I know likes it!

Actually, I own the movie on DVD, but its one of those films that if I'm flipping around the channels and its on, I'll watch it everytime.

This is a great movie. I have the DVD but I don't have the blu yet. I need to pick it up some time. Unfortunately I didn't get to watch it today since I'm at work.

I noticed it's on sale at Amazon, so I'm tempted to get it. I have it on DVD, but don't know if it's worth upgrading (I like the movie, but I don't exactly watch it all the time).

As for the OP, no, I didn't watch it today. I tend to avoid watching movies that take place on a holiday on that holiday, because then I feel like I'm forcing myself to watch it.

I'll watch Christmas-y movies around Christmas-time, but not necessarily on Christmas. Same for Halloween movies, patriotic movies on July 4th, etc.

I thought the transfer to BD was good; although it is a slightly older movie, it is a nice improvement over the DVD. Plus there are special features that weren't on the DVD, including "A Different Day" - an interview with Harold Ramis, and "The Study of Groundhogs: A Real Life Look at Marmots".

I've always wanted to learn about marmots!

The interview with Ramis could be interesting though. Maybe I'll go ahead and get it. I signed up for the free 3-month trial for Prime, so I need to put it to use.
