Rogers bell curve suggests that Innovators are the first 2.5% of people who buy into a tech, and early adopters are the next 13.5%. Early Majority is the next 34%. We are not quite at the Early majority phase of blu-ray adoption (which should be when blu-ray is in 16% of households) but it's close... probably this year. So I would say it's no longer "too early" to buy blu-ray. The hardware is pretty good, backwards compatible and offers other attractive (netflix, etc.) so there's not much issues in terms of "investment" to worry about.
