I had a couple that used to come over on Fridays and we would have movie night. The first couple of times were fine but then I started to notice that they would start getting phone calls. Another friend of ours had her 17 year old daughter that would text. I finally had enough and asked them a question. I said do you know why I have a home theater? because I can control my environment. I said if you can't turn your phone off for a movie then movie nights are over. Needless to say I hurt their feelings because we don't do movie night with them anymore and that's fine with me. I enjoy it much more when it's just me and my wife.
My home theater, my rules. Plain and simple. ![]() |

Interesting topic, and lots of interesting answers.
In no order, mine worth listing would be: -I prefer seeing movies in theaters the first time and not at home. This is usually why I'm caught up on current films but way behind on classics. -I love sitting as close to the front of the theater as possible. About second or third row in most theaters, since first row is too close for my girlfriend most times. Depends on the theater set-up though. -If it were up to me, I'd know NOTHING about a movie before seeing it. I avoid reading reviews, but trailers are impossible to avoid and unfortunately give away a ton. That's probably why I love going to film festivals - nine out of ten movies you see at a festival you are going into as close to blind as possible. You've picked them because somebody said it was "good" but didn't elaborate, or you went off of a one-line "summary" of the movie in a film guide that usually doesn't give much at all away, or you've just picked something entirely random. When we saw Precious last January at Sundance (back when it was still called Push) I had no idea what we were walking into. People were talking about how good it was, but we already had tickets for it anyway before the festival started. I was blown away by it. Kind of wish we were going to Sundance this year too. Ah well. -If I am watching a movie at home, the lights being off is a must. -Must watch a movie in one sitting, at least if it's the first time I'm seeing it (or first time in a long time). -I hate when I fall asleep during a movie. It happens, unfortunately, but I try to avoid it. Usually grab coffee before the movie, or try to grab a drink and popcorn during the movie to get me through that first "hump" as once the movie gets my attention, I'm usually fine and wide awake. In the past I have most definitely gone to see movies twice because I fell asleep the first time. Don't worry, I don't snore. |

I like seeing movies in the theater. An absolute must for me is to be there before the previews start. If not, it will throw off the entire experience for me. My wife gets pretty pissed whenever we get to the theater and she has to wait 30 mins for it to start. LOL.

I too hate falling asleep while watching a movie, so if I'm afraid that may happen I usually put one in I am aware of so if I do accidentally nod off I haven't missed anything. Or I'll get up inbetween and find something to munch on.

I will usually drink a caffeinated soda before I start a movie to keep that from happening. That's about it for me. . Last edited by Duffy12; 02-16-2010 at 01:32 AM. |

What annoys me is when they are practically super glued on so when you peel them off they leave a gummy residue.

My fiancee is an RN which means she works 13 hour days. By the time she gets home she is usually really tired, by still wants to watch a movie with me. I tell her that if she isn't going to be able to get through the WHOLE movie without falling asleep on the couch then I'm not going to even start the movie.
We actually invented a term for this called "TWO PIECING" Which basically means as soon as she has the slightest sigh or feels herself falling into dreamland, we stop the movie right there and resume at that exact point the next night. I really HATE "Two Piecing" ![]() |

I have to do alot of research on the movie before I see it, to bring me in the right mood. And I mostly enjoy watching movies by myself - then I avoid people talking and falling asleep during the movie.
But ofcourse if i'm going to the cinemas I bring some pals. |

Hmm...let's see...
I don't think I have any wild quirks but... - I will often watch a film with the commentary as opposed to watching it "raw". I'm a big fan of commentaries... ![]() - I'd rather watch a film in the comfort of a house on a nice TV, in a perfect chair, in control of snacks and audio tweaks, than watch a film in a theatre. (That might be my most jaw-dropping quirk, to most. Having missed the golden age of movie-going, I actually find home viewing a more "alluring" and adaptable experience than what a modern theatre can provide). - I never grab the first blu case from the shelf. It's always one behind the front copy somewhere (and one in the best condition). An exception being if they only have one copy! ![]() - Many can enjoy a film and cut it off when the credits roll. Nope. I let the WHOLE film roll. I actually feel funny or "incomplete" turning the disc off while the credits are rolling. Last edited by Popcorn_Bliss; 05-14-2016 at 03:43 AM. |

I definitely miss the days of "quiet" movie watching. It's nearly impossible to do at home since my girl's a total extroverted chatterbox.

I don't like to turn off a film even if I hate it I will stick with it. I remember turning of St Elmo's Fire three times but still finished it, what a awful film however I have even broken that rule some times if a film is that bad Dinner for Schmucks was the last time I could not stand that film.
