Thumbs down

What is up with Pixar? Why are they stuck doing endless sequels, toy story 3, cars 2, monsters inc 2. I would of rather had seen a new story than the same old characters, I hope they come back to doing it sometime in the future.

Bummer if it's gone. Sounded cool to me.

I thought it took them about 4 years to make movie? How will they get one done by Summer 2012? Unless it's a sequel, then they dont have to go through the process of developing characters.

Pixar doesn't make sequels unless they have a good idea for one. This is why we haven't seen The Incredibles 2. Pixar also has come up with more new and different ideas than most studios when you consider the sum total of their output.

I don't know how they'll make a sequel to Monster's Inc. but I was just thinking the other day that I would enjoy seeing one.

Too bad about Newt. Just shows you that they aren't going to release a movie that isn't up to Pixar standards.

Ask Disney fans about the tragic days of "Circle 7 Studios", and they'll TELL you why Pixar is "up" with making Toy Story 3 and Monsters 2.

(Since I'm guesising you don't: Back when Pixar threatened to walk out on Eisner-era Disney, Eisner threatened to pull a Spiderman 4 on Lasseter, and claim that since Disney owned "marketing rights" to Buzz & Woody, they could make their own sequels to existing Disney-owned Pixar films, whether Pixar walked out or not--
Pixar called his bluff, and Eisner had the studio's new CGI division specially formed to create new faux-Pixar sequels...The unrelated Disney version of TS3 was a shocking mess, and Monsters 2 wasn't that bad, but O7 ended up being one of the main causes for Eisner's outing and the new peace with Pixar.
But there were still all those scripts lying around--Pixar assumed it would be safer to make those movies themselves with their own ideas, rather than see the old scripts get loose and fall into the wrong hands.)

As for why Cars 2?: Bob Iger still seems to be rather defensive about why we were all unfairly beating up on the first movie when it came out. ("It didn't make as much as Nemo, it's Pixar's first flop!")
Since it was the first Pixar on his watch, he's determined to prove it was an identifiable franchise with the audience after all, no matter what the Monday-morning analysts hysterically piled on at the time....You may have wondered why we're getting so much of that Cars ride at Disneyland.

I didn't know that Eric, that was quite intresting, I'm excited for Toy Story 3, but I never really wanted to see a Cars 2 or a Monsters Inc 2. (They should of burned those evil scripts)

Expand on that please. What other factors support your belief.

I hope you are very very wrong.

Part of my reasoning is that Cars, their weakest film, is getting a sequel. Apparently Monster's Inc (another film I didn't care for) is getting a sequel. I have my doubts on Toy Story 3. I'm hoping for it to be good but the trailers really haven't impressed me. I liked it when Pixar made original films like they have been. It seems to me they are moving away from this. Do I hope these sequels are incredible? Sure, I but I'll reserve that judgment. It's just been a feeling I've had that Up was going to be their last great film for the time being. I know they still have some incredible stories to tell, I'm just not convinced it's in the form of sequels.

Squid, I hope I'm wrong too.

Toy Story 3 looks terrible. The whole, "We need to get back to Andy!" plot has been used to death for the first two movies.

I'd love to see a Monsters, Inc 2, but Cars 2? Really? I really think that it has to do with marketing. There are TONS of Cars and Toy Story products out there. Everything from toys to clothes to sneakers to tooth brushes. None of their other movies have that type of traction and they have to continue to re-brand the franchise to continue to sell that crap.

I love Pixar, but I think they've lost their magic. Their last great movie was the Incredibles, in my opinion.

All valid points. I liked Cars but not enough for a sequel, would much prefer The Incredibles but I loved Monsters Inc so obviously I would want a sequel to that. Toy Story 3 will be a masterpiece though I have no doubt about that. I fully trust Pixar and feel that they know that they can make original masterpieces as well as sequel masterworks. Toy Story 2 is considered among the greatest sequels ever. Pixar are not stupid, they release that sequels are what makes money and what sells and if they do a sequel they can still create art with it, it will just make a ton of money and allow them to be able to make other projects that Disney might have said no to if Finding Nemo for example had not of made $300+ million.

6AM, you didn't like Ratatouille, Wall-E or UP? Interesting. All masterpieces for me.

I thought so on my first viewing, but the charm of Shrek wears off after multiple viewings. The charm of Monster's Inc grows every time I watch it.
