Just a thought: if you're getting it over optical, why do you care to get it over HDMI?

Do you have your slim set to bitstream or PCM?

Is it set to bitstream over HDMI or optical or both? Also have you connected it to your receiver with only an HDMI cable and let it run the auto-detect feature for audio?

Just out of curiosity, what game(s) are you playing that are not playing in DD 5.1? Have you looked at the settings in the game?

If you use HDMI, the PS3 defaults to LPCM, which is better quality than DD or DTS. LPCM is lossless, the other two are loosy.

I really don't understand the problem here, that's how it's suppose to work.
