Thanks, Jeff! I'm assuming this means that the movie plays only with the original Japanese credits, not that a seamless-branching option allows you to choose credits.
Credits are tied to your menu selection. This is SOP for Disney even on DVD

Oh, wow. I didn't think they'd maintain that practice on BD. Very glad they did! Shame about the lossy audio.

The signalling scene is also intact. She sends "BAKA" (idiot, moron) instead of "Bug-off".

Which is much more appropriate for the emotions she's showing. Why they couldn't have just used that is beyond me

The ships were shot on film using Image-G's "Bulldog" motion control camera. The reason they look like video is because they were shot 30fps!

FYI: Did you know Rob Legato (Apollo 13) cut his teeth on TNG as VFX supervisor? I have pics of him setting up the Bulldog on the the USS Lantree (the USS Reliant modified).

Jeff, are the movies under the Dimension films banner included in the Miramax catalog that's being sold right now, or will they still be owned by Disney? (i.e. "Scream" and many others).

Thanks

I've just read about the Weinstein/Sony deal. So if they do buy the Miramax catalog, Sony would release it now? And then, why is Disney interested in selling these movies in the first place? Aren't there many A+ titles in there?

I've also just read about the "Spartacus" blu-ray. Any idea if they made a new master? The hd-dvd release was so harshly criticized.

With Universal I've given up speculating on their mastering. They'll claim it's a new master or new compression and then it turns out to be a direct HD DVD port. I would certainly hope so given the utter ass that was the HD DVD.\

Sony is distributing new films. Essentially they're using them as a conduit. The Weinsteins have an overall deal for catalog with Universal. It really doesn't affect anything other than increasing the chances their new releases hit Blu-ray

'Afternoon Jeff,

Just saw this in an archive search:

I too have one of those, but I haven't tried playing it yet. Can it be played on an American TV?

Yes, but you'll need an early model DC that can use a boot disc to get around the region coding

^ Thanks; I've already got and tested a boot disc on DDR 2nd Mix. Never got around to trying on my PAL game though.

I actually dusted off my Saturn the other day. I'm a play Shining Holy Ark and Shining Force 3 again once I....not sure I can say it here.

My Saturn has had surgery. With a flick of a switch it thinks it's turning Japanese. No mod chip, just 10 minutes withe a soldering iron.

A simple solution:
Just put the EEs on discs and port the extras from the EE dvds and be done with it. Seriously HOW FREAKIN hard is that? WHy dick with the fans by doing it the way they are? Just do that and THEN release the be-all-end-all 10 disc special editions on bluray when the time is right. I just want the films and think its retarded that preparing proper "extras" are holding back the films release.

No EE = no sale.

Thats the end of the subject for the EEs for me. No further comments.
Yeah, I have to agree.

Being a LOTR fan since my early childhood (of the books, in fact, all things Tolkien), I don't even like to admit the theatrical editions exist.

I can wait, but it'll be hard all the same!

Just watched Payback on Blu. I really liked the Directors cut. But I also like the original theatrical cut as well.

Jeff, have you heard any discussion about maybe Payback Theatrical version being released on blu?

No, sorry.

I should share with you guys the incredible model Bill and I were just drooling over. It's a 2.5 foot Saturn V rocket, die-cast, with every piece removeable.

It's also $500

I think I could justify 200.....not 5, but I want it ever so much

There's already a region free Blu-ray released in the UK with both cuts: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0027UY87W/

thanks, but shipping to US would probably be high. Also, reading the reviews over at amazon, it seems that both are on a single disc with the theatrical transfer lacking. I have a feeling that the bitrate and transfer on the theatrical was not given as much attention. So still hoping a version someday gets released in the US.

Well, it is a Warner release. I'm not so sure how good the quality will be if Paramount ever decides to release it though, their reputation isn't so great when it comes to catalog titles.

Oh, very cool. $500 is steep. It saddens me how we've lost the wonder we used to feel about the space program. I'd balk at a $500 Saturn V replica, but I'd easily spend that money on toys for the kids...if I could find them. So many X-Wings and Enterprises, with nary a lunar lander nor Skylab to be had...

If our bribe checks weren't a decade plus late, Bill and I could afford our die-cast Saturn Vs, and get the special post splashdown capsule Pre-order bonus . Damn bureacracy
