For me, Blu-ray is about replicating or exceeding the technical presentation that is available in the original master.

If the film is made in stereoscopic 3D, that's how I want to see it. If the film is made in widescreen, that is how I want to see it. If the film is made in black and white, that is how I want to see it.

Nah. I don't see much more than a niche market for it.
No.

Popular mainstream movies are being made in stereoscopic 3D. These same movies are selling well on Blu-ray. Once 3D on BD becomes the standard, everyone will be buying 3D for Blu-ray, whether they want to watch it in 3D or not.

This is how it should be done. It takes a feature which could potentially be niche and makes it easily available to all without requiring them to adapt to a new format. A lot of the fools naysaying are forgetting: the new 3D discs will work JUST THE SAME on your players and TV sets. No need to naysay or accuse 3D of being niche, because in time, you'll be buying 3D discs even if you just want to see it in 2D.

People don't get excited about things they can't have.
I'm not upgrading my screen, player, or receiver any time soon, but I'm still excited. I'm glad to see the days of anaglyph 3D be gone and finally able to have the film on disc exactly as it is SUPPOSED to be. For example, I have a 60 Hz TV. It cannot display 24 fps material natively. Does that mean I don't love the idea that Blu-ray is stored at 24 fps where appropriate? No, I am really happy about that fact, even if I cannot enjoy it.
