However, for this kind of money, a deck touting upconversion should do it consistently--well, I guess in sense it is consistent.
Just to see if it's a HDMI handshaking issue, did you try the component out?

I have watched about 6 SD movies on my 1400 so far and I have only had one lockup. It went to the Samsung screen, I pushed play, and it went right back to where it was. All in all, it took about 3 seconds and I didnt miss any of the movie. Price you pay for being an early adopter, I can deal with that. No issues at all on BD's, so I'm still quite happy with the player!

MDOJ,
My 1400 experience so far almost exactly duplicates yours (I think you are a movie or two ahead of me). Rise of the Silver Surfer should arrive tomorrow or Friday. I'm anxious to see how it performs on the 1400. Will let you know soon.

Question

So, in general, do those who have this player give it a "thumbs-up"? I have seen this on Amazon.com for a pretty good price, and was thinking of finally taking the Blu-Ray plunge.

I owned it for 2 weeks taking back to CC.The player is slow and SD picture isn't that good.I would hold onto that money for a month.
Some great players are due for release soon.

P.S
Great Avatar. We need a win against the Bengals this week.

Default Bd-p1400

I envy you guys with the 1400 since you can pass through the true hd and Dts-HDma to proper reciever. It is sad that the 2400 got cancelled because it was due to have all that and the HQV chip that the 1200 had which really makes SD look very good. Thanks samsung for leaving us hanging and not providing a firware update for the 1200 that would let it pass through the audio signals like the 1400.

bng75,
I would give mine a "thumbs up". It is equally as good, if not better, than any player I have seen on display at CC or BB. Load times are not a huge factor for me because when I sit down to watch movie I figure on being there awhile anyway so a few more seconds doesn't matter that much. I did receive Rise of the Silver Surfer today and will watch it tonight. I will check the load time and let you know.

Nicadian,
Yes - I have tried the audio both ways through a new Onkyo 605 and a 5.1
speaker setup. I have difficulty in hearing any perceptable difference. Maybe someone with a 7.1 system will give us some input.

Silent,
Rise of the Silver Surfer - load time was 68 seconds. I thought the movie menu setup was lousy. See the "Movies" forum for the review. No problems at all with the 1400 - worked as advertised. Regards.

Silent,
The screen never showed the side show, but during the loading sequence the display on the 1400 scrolled "SIDE SHOW" for a number of seconds. Did yours display a side show on the TV? Also, the menu reacted very quickly, switching from selection to selection so fast it would overshoot easily. Did you notice that also? This is the first BR movie that has done that - so I think it is the movie that's weird, not the 1400. Thanks.

Thumbs up here, and the HD audio is incredible!! I have heard PCM tracks that are very comparible to DTS-MA, but the importance of having it is that none of the Fox titles have any high-res audio tracks except for DTS-MA. If you like to settle for the regular old DTS, then don't worry about it. I personally love the new HD audio formats so I had to have DTS-MA and I love it!!! This player was perfect for me, although I have not experienced the problems that some others have.

Edit: By the way, Fantastic Four ROSS loaded in about 70 secs for me and without any menu issues either!

To those with the 1400 that are getting the Spiderman box, please check Spiderman 2. I had the 1400 last week and my Spiderman box came in a little early. The problem was, Spiderman 2 would not play past about 6 and a half minutes. The player froze and I couldn't even get the disc out without turning the power off then back on. Tried this several times and got the same thing.

I returned the 1400 and got a Sony S500. It cost a little more, but it plays Spiderman 2 just fine.

Ouch talk about a tough choice. Lossing MA in order to play things in a more stable manner.

Gotta have the DTS-MA, especially since SM2 sucked!
