Is there any pictures of the set?? Not talking the artwork in the box, but each of the movies, cover art for each, are they going to be a custom box set or 3 individual cases in an outer box??

Thanks!

The idea of a well mastered blu-ray is that you're getting artifact-free unfiltered 1080p video. I'm sure that this release will be optimally mastered given the high visibility and expectations. And with the theatricals sporting 24-bit DTS lossless, I can't see how image or sound quality could be "improved".

Naturally that's a good thing.

Welcome to the Internet, I guess...

I've got the 3 theatricals on DVD and this set replaces those, plus the supplements. Sounds like a winning purchase to me. I may hold off until the price drops a bit... but the first decent sale, they're mine.

Maybe they'll include that with the EE release.
The "extra" - extra material, by itself, would be worth the price (and wait) for a special extended edition. The amusement value of Arwen fighting at Helm's Deep would be worth a few bucks.

Wooooooooo!

DTS confirmed (not sure if it was before but I noticed when I saw the story on the homepage)!!!

Seeing as I don't have a lossless system, DTS tracks sound MUCH better than (most) Dolby Digital tracks

Same here, so I'm glad they switched. Lossless is lossless, but it's a slightly different story for people like us who can only get the core tracks.

Can we request that your status be changed from Special Member to resident Tolkien expert, or Lord of the Rings Guru, or even something more subtle like Bilbo Bombadil... Seriously, you know more about this than my stepdad and I thought HE had all the answers...

Just an interested fan; the real Tolkien experts are residents of asylums.

I know, just having fun... most Tolkien enthusiasts I've met have read the LOTR many many times, the Hobbit a couple, and have attempted The Silmarillion (spelling?), Ken (my stepdad) has read THAT one numerous times... Since I've known him he's read LOTR at least 2-3 times a year... so if I have a question, I usually go to him

It becomes an unexplainable addiction. I read all the books every year (just started Silmarillion again this week); it became a habit back in the mid-80's. Tolkien's realm is so convincing, that it appeals to me on more than a literary level. I was thinking about starting a group on the forum, but I figured I would be the only member! Maybe we can get your stepdad on the forum!

Default Well, Numenor was destroyed before Aragorn was born so..

technically, he was a descendant of Numenoreans.

And, since he did have a son eventually he wasn't the last one. Of course, his wife Arwen wasn't Numenorean--she had even higher descent.
