I thought we were making so much progress helping the hd dvd people accept their fate. but alas they are digressing to stage 1 again.

once again not a direct quote. ''who cares about blockbusters decision. I mean, they only have 43 million members.''

most people who aren't savy to what blu ray and hd dvd are don't use netflix. so now they'll get the exposure and education they need to make the right choice.

Yeah, I like this one as they don't realize that when they purchased their XBOX 360 add on player they ended up spending the exact same amount as a PS3....

Funny how they forget to mention that part.

I just opened a spreadsheet and added it all up...the 360 + wi-fi + HD-DVD+ controller chargers + Live (over 5 years) and the 360 was about 350-400 more in CDN dollars than the PS3...then I went thru and added up all the features delivered and promised.

At the end it was still a no brainer in favour of the PS3...even without counting it's greater potential.

And then I took it out of the box..WOW..what a marvelous piece of equipment. It so far surpassed my expectations on that front it's not even funny.

Edit: Forgot - at that time I still wouldn't have gotten HDMI either.

bargaining

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...900#post138900

now i'm no psychologist but ''combo players will take over'' definetly sounds like desperation and bargaining. we're getting closer to them letting go and moving on. a little more time is needed though, these things take time.

Somewhere between bargaining and depression, you will hear this statement by HD DVD supporters. “Well neither format will survive. HD sales are so low, downloadable content is going to be more popular, blah blah blah.”

That is my new favorite. They admit that their format is dead but still don’t want to face the fact that Blu-ray is here to stay.

Well, I would expect combo players will get sales among the HD DVD owners. That is a pretty good market to target the combos toward for a few generations.

But, consumers are still going to buy the PS/3 and key CE products (from both sides) and those aren't going to be combos.

Attempting to sue for peace is a sign they realize they've lost.

Gary

I just hope the Blu-ray folks don't accept any offer from Toshiba to come up with a single format. Blu-ray should never be watered down with bad DNA from hd-dvd.

Samsung is just trying to steal some of that market from LG

According to their "Christmas in July" show, they're probably not going to even bother launching the combo player here, just in Europe

if you ever go to avs there are more than a few hippies there. there was one who commented on my thread ''hd dvd fanboys giving up''. his comment was something to the affect of ''why are you bringing this up it will only cause trouble'' his sig read ''2 formats = peace''.

stupid hippies.

Default HD-DVD users coming to terms?

Quote:
A loss experience involves the following five stages of emotional response: (1) denial, (2) bargaining, (3) anger, (4) despair, (5) acceptance.
http://www.coping.org/grief/stages.htm
I did some thinking about it, we are currently seeing all 5 stages from the HD-DVD crowd,

1. Denial, have you ever seen HD-DVD'ers talking about how they will win the format war, talking about how the $200 HD-DVD player will win the format war for them etc...

2. Bargaining, I'm sure you've all heard the argument co-existence, after seeing they are losing the format war, they want to stop the player they bought, and the discs from being useless, the answer to this is co-existence.

3. Anger... ever run into a HD-DVD fanboy? Ever tried having a civil debate with the HD-DVD users? if they don't spout misinformation they get angry, like an animal trapped in a corner, no one likes to realize a mistake.

4. Despair, this one puzzled me for a bit until I realized, the argument that says if we don't resolve this format war ASAP then both BD and HD-DVD will disappear, as the public will lose interest. but right now both sides are getting more sales per quarter then the quarter the preceded it...

5. Accecptance, lately I've started to hear people moving to BD from HD-DVD

so I'm curious am I stretching this argument or do I make a valid point?

I'm sure there's a ton i despair, but over the 51 to 49 win.
Like if I was an hddvd fanboy I'd put all this spin on it, but when I went to sleep at night I'd say, "Dammit... we'll never win."

A fanboy is a fanboy.

However, I do believe HD DVD fanboys have viewed this "war" on a much more personal level. Many have this belief that they are the "underdog" and will overcome a "big, bad" corporate empire named Sony.

Some discussions I have read are simply sad. One would give the impression Toshiba is a saint that is trying to help the community; whereas, Sony (which is viewed as Blu-ray, not factoring BDA) wants to pillage and devour everything in its path.

I notice that most HD fanboys chose HD because of some unfounded, irrational hatred of Sony.

Never mind that the format is inferior in just about every way, if it takes down the "evil giant" Sony, they're all for it.

after reading through this and the latest thread related to this there are sooooo many more cases lately that add into this.

denial: bd only beat hd this week by 2% its because of the b1g1. it took all of their titles (1/2 given away) to beat 1 of ours. and those numbers have a 3% variability anyway so we may have won anyway.

desperation: $150 mill to paraworks.

baraining: everyone should just go purple.

I seen the arguments, Sony is bad. Microsoft backed HD-DVD, a saint of a corporation , good. With the lies Paramount did in the press release,if I owned an HD-DVD player I would be scared also. Lies, no matter from what side, will get you in the end. Numbers are numbers, press releases are just someone's opinions. I am truly wondering if the SEC steps in and calls them on this as it is mi representing profit margins, a violation.

mostly because of the rootkit issue (which many of them didn't even have problems with because they were already pirating music as it was) and the defective batteries which bore sony's trademark but was made by some chinese company and it's because most xbots are wholly m$ lovers... anything that competes with their beloved company sucks (apple, sony, nintendo)
