Or did you just get this idea from AVS?

And that's a very rational response. Personally, I am too cheap to get the A2 in Canada unless I see some major progress with the rebate offers. Soon it will be easy enough to rip HD-DVD content and transfer it to a blu-ray disc. In countries where that is legal, I am sure that will be comforting.

I do, complacency.

Hope I'm wrong.

On the one hand this kills the 360 add on, rival manufactuers players and so on.

But it needs to be countered with a $300 Blu-ray player which would take the steam out of this A2 sale.

When people realize they can't watch their favorite movies in HD on the A2 (i.e. spidey, pirates, etc... the ones that do apply to this demographic) they may reconsider. Or, worst case, they buy the A2 then realize later what a mistake it was and not want to invest into HD anything anymore.

Yeah, way I see it is Ill ONLY buy HDDVD exclusives (which is very few), I do a lot of netflix renting only and I'd rather have HDDVD than DVD.

Any movies that are released on both formats, Ill buy as BD.

If HDDVD dies a year or two from now, no big loss.

Rumours aboud that this will be also a Canadian deal and BB will actually match this price on the player if you bring in the printed ad for it or the CC ad from online.

Habsrule, I've read your posts. You are not here to inform. You are clearly here to advertise hd dvd and spread negativity. This is blu-ray.com you are being inappropriate.

The 'but' part is that it would have to be in-stock & since this is a Fire Sale to get ride of stuff fast....

If either of those happen I would expect it to be around CES (Consumer Electronics Show), starting January 8th IIRC, more than by Christmas. If nothing happens by the end of CES, then it probably won't happen for a while.

Excuse me someone asked about or commented on teh price of HD players in Canada I gave them an answer how is that just here to promote one format, anyhow you will have an opinion on my posts as I may have one on your posts I look at this format was as silly and do not have an alegience to either side. Sorry you feel that way but being neutral is honestly the best way to go for all HDM titles.

How is expecting the general public to fork out for two sets of equipment, a BD player and a HD-DVD player good for the public Whats good for the public is to have one format. Sitting on the fence only encourages the studios to string this format war out.

The second time you've talked about some coupon, which I find no mention of anywhere else including Cicuit City themselves.
Being neutral means giving in to the movie studios and their bullying ways. No thank you, I have the patience to wait until they all go blu. Plus the fact that the picture and audio quality is touted by the critics as being superior on blu-ray means I am waiting to get the movies I can't now in the best format possible when available.
Didn't you admit at the end with your neutral proclaimation that I was right about you trying to push people towards purchasing these sub $200 hd dvd's which you have posted about more than once now?
You've even bashed Disney in a few different posts. Who are these numerous other studios you mentioned that are putting out animation on par with the Disney and Pixar studios?

I think price is very important at this stage.
Alot of people in that particular sinario may well wonder why the hd-dvd player is so cheap (if they were alongside each other)...

While I normally don't care too much about the whole "price is everything" argument, $169 is VERY cheap. I assume these will be A2's, which means they may not be out of production after all, and may be being sold for $199 regularly--and not just as a clearance. Or... they may be discontinued but had so many left that they are letting all the stores buy the up super cheap, and Sears decided to save them for that weekend as a doorbuster.

Either way, the pricing argument is getting harder to ignore as the distance increases.

Default Yikes....

Blu Ray had better get some cheaper players out there because the price difference is getting bigger all the time. I'm thinking if we could get some blu ray players for around 250 - 275 it would be a great start. Contrary to belief on here, people can and will care about the price, especially the people that haven't already bought a high def player...

a-men there, every player sold on their part, means more movies sold as well.
Really sucks, just means this crap will continue for years to come

Point is HD-DVD players have been very cheap for a long time, $100 is neither here nor there when you need to own a HDTV to benefit from these players.

There's value for money, but there's also suspiciously low prices, especially for new technology.

It's a little different when we are talking established tech like DVD.

Considering Toshibas sales are hundreds of thousands, if not millions, short of projections, I'm sure they have a plentiful supply of A2's.

Blu-ray is a better technology but please, manufacturers, get cheaper players out. It will be worth it in the end.

Isn't blue laser diode production as cheap as red (DVD) now? So what's the issue?
