Just a great film. Everything works in this film. I hope someone has this for a good price. I do want this. A classic.

Well, as stated elsewhere on this site, I recently watched my Vista Series again, using the DTS audio, and am STILL impressed with the AQ & PQ, and since it was money spent 7 years ago, WHY would I want to spend again for LESS ?????

Well the main improvement should be the picture and audio. But it would suck to lose the extra screans and any bonus material.

Tombstone! Been waiting and waiting for this. Slowly scratching another off my list of Westerns. We need the other 5 major Clint ones, and would love to see Shane, Open Range, Magnificent Seven, and then a bunch of other titles they'll probably never make Tin Star, Last Train To Gun Hill, Ok Corral, and on & on.

The director was not happy with the cut released theatrically. Disney forced him to cut it down to meet a running time because they thought it was going to be a bomb. Morons.

The DC is infinitely superior and I will not spend a dime on anything buty.

I believe if Jarre was allowed to finish directing this would have been the definitive Wyatt Earp film.
Sorry, but Jarre had no idea how to direct. After just two days everyone on set knew it. The director they brought in has to be thanked for saving the film. He knew what he was doing and the results are a very muscular piece of work with amazing shots, hard tension and just one gorgeous scene after another. Nothing of Jarre's is left in the film.

The problem came about when Disney was sure Costner's version would get all the respect and just dumped all over their own movie, forcing cuts and refusing to back the thing with a good marketing campaign. No doubt the shooting script was stupendous, but what happened to it was really a slight edit that dropped a couple characters that were not needed, allowing both Powers Booth and Michael Beihn to take center stage as the villains. That was a smart move. A shame Disney still screwed it up for forcing a short running time on the film.

Well, I've chnged my mind ! A.) WHO said I couldn't keep my Vista DVD ? Duh... 2.) @ $ 15.99 each, I think I'd be a huckleberry NOT to grab them both ( my Armageddon is the non-anamorphic Criterion ). So here's hoping for superior PQ & AQ & the surprise of the additional footage...

Looks like we're getting screwed! I just saw on the homepage that specs for this movie are now out, and there is no indication that this is the director's cut. I've canceled my pre-order because of it. I've seen the theatrical cut and loved it, but I have the 2-disc Vista series Director's Cut DVD. So it looks like I'll be holding on to that one until Disney straightens this out with the eventual double-dip.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but has Disney released the DCs of any of their movies on blu-ray that are already available on DVD? From what I can tell Enemy of the State, Con Air, and Crimson Tide all received DCs on DVD, yet their Blus are all theatrical-only cuts. Add Tombstone to this list now, also. I am very disappointed.

Any chance that Tombstone will not be a region free release?

Interesting? You are going to forgo having this in high def with lossless sound because it's missing 4 minutes from the Director's Cut?

It's one of my top 10 all time movies. I currently own the Vista Series version but I am not about to pass up the opportunity to get this in HD.

When a better version comes along with the Director's Cut and more extras I will just sell the current version and upgrade for a few bucks when that day comes.

For “me” 1080p high def and lossless sound > missing 4 minutes and extras

Yeah, I'd really like to know what's in that 4 minutes of the director's cut that everyone finds so vital.

Wait the directors cut is 4 minutes longer really? I have not seen the movie in so long i would not even know what 4 minutes is the DC footage.

  • a somber soliloquy by Doc quoting Kublai Khan;

It's not a huge addition and not worth missing Tombstone in all its 1080p glory.

Odd that the IMDB info you quoted says 9 minutes difference when the runtimes from IMDB show 130 minutes vs 134 minutes for the DC.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0108358/dvd

Maybe they used some sort of compression to squeeze 9 minutes worth of extra scenes into 4.

Day one for me either way as my copy is pre-ordered on Amazon.

See the attached link for the difference between in the DC.

There are only 6 minutes of added footage.
