I need to lose about 40 pounds.

Where do you eat out and what do you eat there? Honestly don't have the will to cook for myself, neither does my wife, so what can I do? Any suggestions?
Agreed, calories is what you need to watch the most. You also need to eat a good amount of lean protein, watch the bad fats, and wash down with water water water instead of pop or coffee. You are right, eating properly is very important, as important as exercise if not more so, when trying to lose weight.

Subway has some good sandwiches, and almost every fast food joint now offers salads to eat that are pretty tasty, try to avoid the ranch dressing and use a vinaigrette instead. Don't try to make too many changes at once tho, I've found for me that making small changes over time leads to better success when trying to change your diet.

Thanks for the advice. This is exactly what my wife is telling me. Small changes, like stopping pop and coffee. No more fried foods. Etc ...

Started my first jog today. I am sort of feeling better already. Although I feel tired I am more invigorated.

I would advise that you don't STOP the coke and coffee. Coffee isn't bad for you in moderation, especially if you don't sweeten it with sugar. Stevia is a good natural calorie free sweetener that I use in my coffee. I would advise that you cut back slowly. If you drink a six pack of soda a day, cut back to 4 or 5 and drink a glass of water for every soda or cup of coffee that you drink. Over time slowly cut back the soda until you are only drinking a couple of them per week.

Good luck on your jogging.

Thanks man. I will make it a plan here to touch base to let everyone know how I do. Should be fun.

i'm trying to lose weight & have been since late last year

I've lost about 35lbs (UK measurement 2.2lbs per KG) and tryinto to lose about 35 more

i rounded my weight up to 19st when i started & am now 16st 7 lbs and the way i've done it is to try and change my eatin habits in a way i can keep up just like others have suggested

switch from sugar filled soft drinks to squash with no added sughar, diet drinks & water. Find out about portion sizes & how much of what you should have as well as eating much slower, taking about 20 mins to eat at least & drinking a glass or two of water per meal.

Chewing gum can help prolong the time you go without hunger and try having a glass of water at the time you start to feel hungry.

Excercise has to slowly be built up, start with moderate walking, light jogging & do as much distance as you feel comfortable with and slowly step it up week by week.

The main key to keepin it off though is when you start to keep a balance of what you eat and how much you excercise and be under no ILLUSION that years of body neglect can be done over with in months like i used to, which is why i failed so many times before at trying to get the body i wanted.

I have the goal of losing my fat & toning out by the end of the year which is realistic for me, and the main thing is to realise, weight going up or down in a day by 4-5lbs if you do measure is normal, but the main thing you should do is measure one day a week, at the same time (preferrably mornings) in the same clothes to accurately measure change. You should aim for a realistic change of 1-2lbs per week and anymore is brilliant

Good lucky to anyone on their weight loss journey & hope you can share your stories to help others see what helped you to achieve your goals

Hey fellas, it's early Sunday morning, and there are plenty of infomercials. So, what I'd like to know, of those that have tried both P90X and Insanity, which is the better program of the 2?

Not just for short term, but the better program one could do over more than just 3 months.

Also, I know from the commercial P90X requires a door pull up bar, and dumbbells. What does Insanity require? And where can I get the needed items for either program?

Just kicking the idea around for a summer project and wanted to get info from people that have done it. Thanks.

I've done both programs now and it is difficult to say which is better for long term use. I get bored easily, so now I will probably mix them up and do a "hybrid" program.

The differences are that Insanity is almost all cardio and requires no equipment other than a yoga mat if you want to use one. If you aren't in decent shape to start with Insanity is not the way to go. It is very intense. P90X uses a pull-up bar that I got at Wally World for about 25 bucks I think, the yoga mat and blocks, and they say that you can use resistance bands for these workouts, but I found I got way better results with a set of adjustable dumb bells that I bought at Costco for like 250 bucks I think. P90X is a better program to start with IMO because he shows you how to modify the moves if you are starting out not very fit. That's it. The key to either of these programs is to stick with them and it is very important to follow the nutrition guides.

I've found that I'm a lot more likely to work out if I do it in the morning. I've had to adjust my sleep schedule and it was a pain waking up earlier at first but now I get up 45 minutes earlier every morning and get my workout in right away. After work stuff frequently was coming up so I wasn't working out as often but now I get a workout in every day.

I think I'm eventually going to start working out in the AM as well. The only problem is I start work at 7am, which means I'm going to have to wake up really early. However, my wife & I are expecting our first child in 6 months. I think things are going to get so busy, morning workouts will be my only option.

It's funny because I can workout during Daylight Savings time since it's brighter longer but when it's dark quickly I get lazy.

It's horrible in Michigan. In the middle of winter it gets dark around 5PM. If I didn't workout right after work, I'd just go home and be lazy. Having the extra day light now is great!

I agree, it's making me feel better just to have more daylight.

That's a pretty low number to shoot for. Each person's body is different and the weight that they want to attain (along with the weight they're at) is going to be different.

This is a VERY good start, keep it up

Personally, I just started running again (it's FINALLY getting nice out!). I ran a good 4.5 miles yesterday, and i'm working my way up. I want to run a 15k this summer, and if all goes well, i'll be doing it in August.

Question for anyone who's done the P90X. My buddy's gonna give me the DVD set but he doesn't have the nutrition guide, calendar, etc. Are these pretty helpful when going through the program? I'm sure they're great, but are they necessary for the program? If so, I can find some used on ebay

Any other advice? Thanks
