even on his review page he has the dts-hd logo plastered at the top coupled with the other review and what we hear from warner, there's no reason to believe that its anything but a type-o |

I admit the LOTR Extended Versions are definitely better and seem to flow seamlessly as if they naturally belong in the trilogy. But I have to give in to my need to watch (at least) the theatrical versions in Blu Ray before 2012!!! I agree with all of you that studios are being ridiculously greedy in having multiple BD releases of movies (special edition, director's cut, anniversary edition) give me a break! Capitalism is alive and well in the USA. OBTW how can one purchase only LOTR: FOTR without having the other two movies - this is a true trilogy!

I don't think I am someone to compare your eyesight with. I can see a difference in those pics, but I am sure others see even more detail (or lack thereof) than I can.

This is hilarious!!
Fanboys dissing the new blu-rays based on random screencaps on forums. Flaming WB. Then a couple of reviews show up, praising it to the hilt. Including the widely respected Bill Hunt. LMAO All we need now is a Robert Harris rave and those doubters will have to hold their hands up and admit its better to actually see the thing than judge it based on a screenshot. Except they won't of course. Backing down is not something your average fanboy is willing to do. |

It is an indisputable fact that the HDTV broadcasts are superior in image quality to this Blu Ray release. Find any, any, frame of the BD version and compare it to the HDTV version. They've obviously usedthe old master and have not bothered to re-scan for this release. It's (the HDTV broadcast) virtually the identical release minus DNR. There is copious amounts of proof to back this up. Bill Hunt can say it's the greatest looking Blu Ray of all time, that doesn't make it true. If he had put into his review the fact that it doesn't look as good as the broadcast version that probably would've put an entirely different spin on it. If a repackaging of the HDTV version with DNR applied is adequate for you, that's fine. And what does this have to do with "Fanboy" anything? Everyone complaining is a Blu Ray "fanboy," or a LotR fanboy. Last edited by Stinky-Dinkins; 03-23-2010 at 02:04 PM. |

So what you're claiming is whoever (the multiple people actually) posted the version comparisons altered the Blu Ray shots to make them look worse? Honestly? You can't be that dumb. |

At the end of the day if qualified critics in the industry say LOTR looks really good on blu-ray then that's good enough for me. Early days yet, I'll wait for a few more reviews. But I'm encouraged with what I've read. I live in the UK and we've only ever had the third film broadcast in HD without ad breaks. So I will happily take the other movies on blu-ray without ad breaks and deem them better versions than the ones I have on my Sky HD box. I loosely used the term fanboy when perhaps I shouldn't have. I class myself as one for sure. However, I would rather wait and see the thing for myself, or read reviews from respected critics whose job it is to critique these things before making my mind up. |

The mere fact that it looks inferior to the old HDTV broadcast version is very disappointing. If you don't see a problem with this I don't know what to tell you man. People here seem to think that if it's better than the DVD it's "Good enough," and if it's "Good enough" it's legitimately good. I think that's a ridiculous argument. Personally I was hoping, I dunno, that they'd remaster it. Guess that's too much to ask. Do you remember how many "respected" critics praised Gladiator to no end? What exactly is that supposed to prove? Somehow comparing the actual frames of each presentation is a faulty argument but taking the word of a jackass with no proof whatsoever is a better way to go?!? Ok, makes perfect sense.
