That is what made the movie better, it was the first thing I noticed when I first saw it, fantastic!

I'm a big film score fan, listening to them incredibly often (I sometimes get comments from relatives I should listen to 'real' music, whatever that means). There are too many composers to list I really love, and it has even come to loving soundtracks without having seen the movie.

From the works of Bernard Herrmann (Psycho, Twilight Zone show) to Danny Elfman (Pee Wee Herman's Big Adventure, '80s Batman), I'm also a big fan of memorable soundtracks. A lot of good suggestions are up already, but I'll mention a sub topic to consider.... how about the memorable music in movies about music? Here are a couple:

- Immortal Beloved's Ode to Joy scene with an abused young Beethoven lying in the water looking at the stars

- Holly Hunter's performance in The Piano

About any music in Amadeus fits perfectly within the scene.

Sunshine - especially during the space jump scene, absolutely incredible. I use to fire up the blu-ray all the time just to listen to that track! (they used it in some trailer for another movie where people start going blind.. not sure if it made it into the movie).

Dark City

That lifeguard movie with Kostner and Krucher has a great soundtrack.

Flash Gordon

Today the score is a big deal when I´m anticipating a movie.

A new Spielberg movie means a new score from John Williams. Tim Burton = Danny Elfman. Michael Bay is making a movie. Will it be Hans Zimmer or his protege Steve Jablonsky?

I remember the impact every John Williams score made on me, as a kid. The next and greater impact was the score too the original Terminator, by Brad Fiedel. A simple tune that really defined the mood of the movie.

The movie was beautiful and most of the credit goes to the soundtrack...

the scene when Capa talks on the recorder
Mace experiencing happiness with the water
the space jump
Capa and Cassie fall up and down as they slide down the bomb
Capa meeting the sun - epic, one of my favorite endings

Also, Dark Knight and Batman Begins have great scores.

"Like a Dog Chasing Cars" - my exercise song, gets you so pumped.

Another related subtopic: fight scenes supported by great music. Off the top of my head:

- In Kill Bill, the instrumental percussions are building up from the song "Please Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" as the Bride and Oren Iishi size each other up for the final battle.

- In Mortal Kombat Annhilation (terrible movie), one fight scene feels epic simply because of the song Control: Juno Reactor Instrumental is hyping it up. Look up the song online to see what I mean.

- The last scene in Rocky. 'Nuff said.

I LOVE soundtracks too and I don't think you have a strange obsession. I own over 50 soundtracks (including some on SACD) and I really enjoy listening most to the soundtracks from Alien, Amadeus, Dances with Wolves, The Day the Earth Stood Still (original movie) and Spartacus! I LIKE them so much that I even have them on my Ipod!

It's in the first one, too (Liu Kang vs. Reptile). Traci Lords & Juno Reactor really outdid themselves with Control.

Great movies, always have great soundtracks, The Godfather is one of the best examples of this.
Without the music all the greatest movies wouldn't be as masterful and beautiful.

In some cases the music makes the movie even better like in Amadeus.

I am Sam also has a great soundtrack.
