Default Obsession?

Ok, having checked out my collection of 52 strong BDs (DAYAM, i have a lot of catching up to do to catch up to to 200+ club) and tallying up the amount of money I've spent over the past 8 months since purchasing my lovely PS3, it's well over $1700 now... and there's no end in sight!! Lucky for me I have a wonderful (and beautiful for that matter) fiancee who indulges in this "fetish" of sorts with me. Tallying up entertainment budgets and all, we're actually saving money with BD purchases by not going out as often, especially to the movies. Sure, it's nice every once in awhile to see a big screen movie (Transformers, 300, etc.) but since the price of movie tkts have skyrocketed in the past 5 years, you're paying that much anyway on BD. I figure that I'm obessessed with my collection (I stare at it sometimes and desire MORE, MORE, MORE!!!). Saddens me that there are so few releases trickling out from the production studios, but I'm glad at least the new movies will be coming in Blu. I'm sure there are plenty of you guys out there... videophiles, audiophiles...

Great read. I especially like the part where you are justifying your hobby to yourself.

I think we all do this to justify our hobbies to oneself and wives/girlfriends/fiancée /etc… You’re preaching to the choir here brother. No justification needed. Just enjoy!

my wife still tells me she can't tell the difference between regular cable and HD cable , but she likes the clarity of the bd movies. so, i'm slowly building my collection with movies that i want to watch over and over again, not just movies to have movies.

My girl and I have a combined total of over 1000 DVDs and nearly 50 BDs.....it start as her obcession with movies and mine for video games. Like alot of us, we bought the PS3. Althou she tends to hog it and my gaming is starting to falter....

My wife is totally with me on the BD thing... it's just she thinks I'm a little more obsessive.. maybe I use this forum too much. heh heh

She loves HD, and loves Blu-ray, and we both pick out movies to watch, but she has put me on a budget... which is a good idea to save money, and since I tend to spend too much on movies as is, I suppose I should cut down... but there are so many movies I want to own and watch.
So for now, I can't buy any more BD's, at least for a few weeks. So to save money, all my BD purchases will have to be via Amazon, or other online stores with good prices like Fry's, and be less often. Kinda sucks cause I now have a huge list of movies and such growing in my wish list on amazon. Going to be tough picking just one out a week.
At least she understands my obsession. She's just trying her best to help us out.

my wife has flip flopped so many times. she says she can't tell the difference between sd and hd. bought a 2nd ps3 sold a ps3, bought a stand alone, sold the stand alone, bought another ps3 (all at her request) then yesterday she bought TMNT on BD and was all excited to watch it. I just don't understand.

but I am fully obsessed. I work overtime specifically to get the money to buy more bd's. and that 2nd ps3.

plus I read just about every thread on here........i'm a loser.

Only buy a movie with a good replayability value. So if you've never seen it, don't do a blind buy. Rent.

Renting BD is also supporting BD. It lets the rental stores know that people are renting too.
