I have Both. Matter of fact I have a slim, an original 60gb, and an OPPO BDP83. I love my OPPO but if I had to have only one it would be the PS3 slim. The slim can do many things with ease the OPPO just can not. First of all the slim can bitstream and switch to PCM on the fly so you canplay secondary audio, it's actually the only player that can do this. The loading of movies is at least one third faster with any model ps3 although the OPPO is acceptably fast especially on start up, but I think most new model players released this year have caught up. If you're ever going to go 3D the ps3 is the only player presently available that will be able to be firmware upgraded in June to display 3D. I've called OPPO and they have announced there players can not and they will need a whole new player made. When it comes to upconversion Home Theater Magazine reviews the PS3 slim last issue which produces same as old model results but through firmware Sony has improved highly on upconversion and passed every visual test thrown at it since it's release in 2007. The magazine also stated the upconversion ability was very close to the OPPO's (which really surprised me). Two last issues with the OPPO it's like every other stand alone player and still runs BD Live slightly flawed sometimes and really needs the feature turned off to run flawlessly all the time and although mostly perfect sometimes has issues with java intense screens/menus, the PS3 never really has any issue with any film you throw at it. Now I might sound like I'm trying to convince you to not get an OPPO BDP83. I'm not, but if it's between one do not give the PS3 up unless you need Analog output, and film height adjustment for screen projection and another great OPPO feature is subtitle adjustment. Now even with all these little tiny issues the OPPO is still my favorite player and upconverts better then everything and anything I've seen, so if you want it, get it just don't expect the problem free movie watching you've most likely been getting with you ps3. Also let's not forget the fact that OPPO plays pretty much all media thrown at it which the fatter ps3 did too in regards to SACD playback but not the newer slim. I hope this is the definitive answer you're looking for.
