I don't follow who is doing what in the 3d world. All I know is the disk was in a panasonic blu-ray player with a panisonic tv and some black glasses with black tint.

Like I said, Monsters vs Aliens is Samsung. Either Best Buy has it wrong or there is some confusion.

I think what the guy was trying to say is that Best Buy had both Sammy and Panasonic sets and the Monsters vs Aliens disc would come with the Sammy set exclusively if you were to buy it and walk out the door. The movie wouldn't be available seperately, but that doesn't stop an employee or anyone else for that matter from taking the disc out of the Sammy BD player and popping it in the Panasonic one. The disc would still work in the Panasonic player it's just that you wouldn't have any other way of actually buying the movie seperately to view on a Panasonic 3D HDTV. Obviously this wasn't the case for this instore demo.

I was just about to say that lmao like I have some control over who puts in what disk, all I know is it didn't look good at all, and maybe they will someday get it to be amazing, but what I saw I'd never go out of my way to watch or purchase.

Which is why I mentioned that Samsung is the one that has Monsters vs Aliens. Not Panasonic.

I also mentioned that because when I went to look at them both, I had the same reaction to the Samsung setup. However, the Panasonic setup - was AWESOME.

That's why I mentioned it would be best to make sure it was playing on the right set. Either way, I thing Monsters vs Aliens was not the best choice to showcase 3D movies at all.

The bridge scene looks good but other scenes had a lot more pop.You should really watch the whole loop.

lol, I don't know why some people here are saying that monsters vs. aliens on the sammy didn't pop out. It popped out PLENTY when I went to experience the demo today at best buy. I sat through the entire demo and it really showed off how various scenes display depth a little differently. Some scenes were deeper (far away) while others came right out of the screen and jumped up in front of my face (like rockets shooting out). Great stuff!!

Thank you! I loved it myself. Its exactly what most will call a tasteful 3D movie. It sounds like all the people on here want the gimmick 3D thats coming at you every minute. Seems like most just want to bash Samsung or lcd? Pretty silly as both Samsung and Panasonic make some damn good sets. I havent seen the Panasonic yet but Im sure it isnt night and day difference like some are claiming. I hope it is because the Samsung knocked my socks off. I went there 3 times in one week. If its night and day better than the Samsung I will be in heaven when I buy it.

I don't think its that, I just know me personally I expected more with all the overhype going on. Its fine if some people go crazy for it, but for me being forced to wear awkward glasses while I watch movies, it better be amazing to force me to do that. It was no different then the 3d I saw as a kid at universal studios (maybe better PQ) but exactly the same as I remember 3d stuff in the 90s lmao.

For myself, it turned out to be everything I'd hoped for and more. By more, I mean that I wasn't expecting such an incredibly clear and bright picture rivaling what I've experienced in theaters. In my mind, that's nothing short of amazing. So, to have that option to display such high quality 3-D TODAY, not next year or 10 years from now, is AWESOME. The only catch is that it's expensive and the movies are currently exclusive. In one or two years from now, I'm gonna be AAAAAALL over this when I purchase a 3-D tv (or projector maybe by that point) for my very own. I'm excited about this!

All right I made it out to a BB with a Magnolia in it. First off I was expecting more from Magnolia didnt seem too much different from a regular BB at least the one in summerlin NV. They really could have set the Panasonic 3D off by itself so your not seeing all the other displays flickering when the glasses are on. Also the Samsung 3D set is far away from it and hard to find. When you ask them where the 3D tvs are they only take you where the Panasonic is didnt even mention the Samsung. They at least had the Samsung dialed in right as I didnt notice any crosstalk, but the regular BB by my house has it set up better with a canopy over it.
Back to the Panasonic though I thought it looked great. The picture was sharp and colorful, and the loop has lots of good 3D effects to it. The grand canyon looked amazing and it was cool watching the guy backflip off the ledge. Its cool when the door opens to the house its like your walking through. Astro boy is a lot like monsters vs aliens in that at times it seems barely 3D and other times very 3D. When asro is walking through the grass field it was amazing.
Over all I would say the sets are pretty close in PQ and I couldnt say one looked better than the other. I already got blessing from the wife to get whatever set I want. I can probably go up to 5k before she gets pissed. She likes the Samsung better though I suspect its because the glasses are so much better for it. I am leaning towards the Samsung because I do so much gaming and with lcd burn in is impossible and I also surf the web via my PS3. The Samsung also converts any 2D to 3D and though not as good as true 3D still pretty impressive for video games. I got to demo sreet fighter in 3D and really liked the effect. I want to see what it can do for Fallout 3! The thing is no way would I get 46" and even 50" seems too small. The 55" seems big enough but 65" would be the bomb. I probably will get this 55" and in 5yrs I can upgrade to a 100"+ OLED full 4k 3D no glasses needed set, but this is just too sweet right now not to upgrade (for me).

First of all, burn-in is possible with LCD still, is just extremely hard. I once left the same wallpaper in my desktop for about 6 months, and left the screen on for about ~15h daily (sometimes over 24h). Once day I was going to watch a movie, and part of the wallpaper image was burn-in. I had to remove the wallpaper, and use it normally for about 3 weeks for it to get back to normal. So is not really burn in, but more like IR, but I'm sure you're never going to be as careless as I was that time.

Also, Samsung is about the biggest offender of Input Lag. Check the reviews, all of their 2009 models were over 100ms latency. With the 3D and extra procession going on, I expect that number to be even higher. I personally can't game with that much latency. I owned the B750 (fastest 2009 model), even in Game Mode was just not playable.

I work swing shift and dont get home till midnight so falling asleep with a game on screen or a web page for a few hours happens sometimes. I am also already using a Samsung lcd for games and dont even notice lag. I also played street fighter on this 3D tv and didnt notice lag. I wouldnt want to be running a plasma in torch mode just so my games are bright enough.

The Panny is a plasma, right?

Eventually there will be 3D movies that begin life as 3D, not converted 2D. The live sports broadcasts are supposed to have different perspectives on objects so they look real instead of like a flat picture raised above the background.

I just wanted to say, that I finally saw the Panasonic demo at BestBuy.
The 3D in the Panasonic was indeed better, but I still didn't like it. It didn't have the double image that the Samsung had, but it had something that I can only describe as flicker. It felt like my eyes were trying to catch up with the image, but they never could. I was getting closer to seeing a solid image, and then flicker, then slowly getting solid, then flicker again. Very annoying, but nowhere near as annoying as the Samsung.

I don't know, I just prefer regular 2D. The only 3D I've ever liked is the demo they have at TigerDirect. I think is nVidia 3D Vision, but I'm not really sure. I saw this a couple of years ago. I just know, it was so much better. It wasn't like "Ok, here is a 3D image, now look at it". No, it was more like "Here is 3D space, feel free to move your head around and see the same image from infinite angles". Like, it was real 3D space, unlike the version of movies where the 3D is fixed. And it was so much more realistic, despite their screens being around 20".

So, I've never owned a plasma before, but I am really considering the 65" panny when it's released. I've owned a rear projection HDTV and a Sony 52" XBR4 LCD.

A few questions regarding the technology:
  1. Back when plasma was first released, there was this "screen door" effect. Is this still present in current plasma sets?
  2. If "screen door" is still an issue with plasmas, is it worse with larger sets?
  3. How far away from a plasma TV do you have to sit in order to not notice the screen door effect?
  4. Has "burn-in" become less likely with new sets? I mean, I never watch letterbox content anymore, so 4:3 burn-in will be non-existant. And I don't really watch anything that would burn into the screen (except an occational game here and there, but never for more than 3 or 4 hours at a time. Oh yeah, and 2.35:1 movies with black bars at the top and bottom.)
When I bought my LCD a few years ago, I bought it because of the clarity, but the viewing angles are really limited and there is this really bad motion trail/blurring that's going on. I liked the uniformity of LCD (it's more of an image than a bunch of pixels) whereas a plasma looks like a bunch of pixels or gas bubbles to me.

Anybody care to comment about the diffences between LCD and plasma?

  1. No
  2. N/A
  3. N/A - If you sit 1 foot away, you will notice the pixels. Lol.
  4. It's no longer "burn in". More so "image retention" that ANY panel can experience, be it Plasma or LCD. They both can get image retention. Plasma is more susceptible however unlikely unless you use it as an airport sign or something along those lines.

I would go plasma and never look back. LED LCD has a ways to go before it's good. LCD is better, but still not on par with plasma. Panasonic is THE king of plasma. I too am thinking about the 65" 3D Panasonic this year. It depends on one big thing - content. If there is enough of it that justifies the purchase, then I will. However if no content is readily available, why buy now? I can buy later with more content and a lower price. Along with better, newer tech.

Buying now with little to no content is a waste of money really. So, shop around, read all you can and just think about your purchase before you jump in
