HD DVD will always be priced ahead of Blu-ray.

If you think this is the right strategy, you're on the wrong forum.

i didnt when they were both over 300

but when you can get a hd dvd for less than 200 but cant get a blu-ray player for less than 400 nobody in their right mind can think blu-ray have much of a chance

The 40gig PS3 comes out this week for $399.99. It may not have backward compatability at this time, but I feel the reason Sony has done this is to try and come out with a sub $400 Blu Ray player as well as promote the games for PS3. Not to mention the 80gig price drop to $499.99. The Wal-Mart that I work at has been selling PS3's like mad. Although a gaming machine, they have helped to put Blu Ray players into homes, just as the PS2 did with DVD. I know that since having my 60gig I have bought over 25 Blu Ray's as a result, and quite a few of us on here have them as Blu machines too.

Ya I haven't heard that either. I haven't even heard of there even being any. If there were though I would have thought my HD-DVD supporting friends would be going nuts on my answering machine.

anyone who cares about true HD doesn't want a cheap HD player that only outputs at 1080i. and if these cheap players do so happen to 'fly off the shelves' - they'll be flying into the homes of ignorant consumers who are just getting their feet wet. they'll buy their cheap hd dvd player, then go try to buy the movies they want in hd and realize how many movies they can't watch because they're only on Blu. from that point, they'll either bail on hd altogether or they'll go Blu. and this is why, in my opinion, cheap hd dvd players are good for blu ray.

Best Buy is sold out of them because, they are either A1 or A2. Both of these are close-out deleted skus. Best Buy wont stock them anymore. That is why they are "sold out" at Best Buy. Best Buy won't restock an obsolete, old, dead format player.

sniff sniff sniff.

if they do, they'll fly right back to the returns bin because content is king... no disney... no buy.

only an hd-dud fanboy would make such an illogical step... if price was such a big barrier, how come, with hd-dud players being consistantly lower priced than their blu-ray counterparts they still fail to move? firesale. you, my red-friend, are a fudder. go and buy your hd dvd player... enjoy it while it lasts. i heard toshiba is releasing a hd-dvd/dvd burner where you can rip hd-dvd content to dvd... so what's the point of hd-dvd again?

He may have a point with these $199 players. I worked at Best Buy when we got our FIRST DVD display. The units cost about $300 to $1000 at that time.

The following xmas they were under the $200 mark and everyone was buying a modulator so they could watch them. I would get into demo after demo and tell people that your missing the point of DVD if your hooking it up through a modulator and don't have surround sound. At that point it was a fancy VCR that couldn't record.

People would care less and buy the DVD player anyway. THe 95% of the market that hasn't chosen a format yet are not philes like the bulk of us and will not always make a "proper" decision that is thought out. Case in point, my husband wants a dvd player for xmas. But they hook it up through the coax with a modulator?????

Watch how many 720p TV's will fly off the shelf this xmas and this $199 DuD will be the perfect compliment for it. THey don't need the 1080P, so the units may sell????

No. I have heard make like an azz and blow hot air. I think there are a few variations.
