Edit: oh yea.. I have two copies of CC edition Gomorrah because the first copy Amazon sent me was damaged (case damage) and they sent me another copy.. Thank you Amazon

As much as I would love to cut down on buying BDs, I'm tempted to get WALL-E next. I really shouldn't tho. Must...be...strong...

Well I'm not telling people not to buy movies, I just don't think it's for me.

In general though, to answer your questions... most people probably don't watch their movies as much as they think. I'm sure some people count "watching" a movie as putting it on while they're vacuuming or surfing the 'net. But I don't.

If someone owns 300 movies, how many times have they seen each one?

I know within my own collection (which, keep in mind, is rather small compared to others here), the breakdown is something like...

1+ views -- 100% of the movies
2+ views -- 60% of the movies
3+ views -- no idea, but small.. maybe like 25-30%
10+ views -- maybe 1-2%

If you pay $25 for a movie to watch it twice, it's not really a great idea to buy it. If you bought it for $10, then sure, maybe it was cheaper. But did you really want to see it again, or did you just watch it because it was sitting around?

I know some people argue that there is a convenience involved in owning movies, so you can watch whatever you want whenever you want... but since when is having no control over impulses a good thing?

I can count on a single hand the number of times I was in the middle of doing something else and thought "F this, I'M ABOUT TO GO WATCH BLADE RUNNER!!!!!" and then ran to my TV and threw it in, because it's happened a whopping 0 times.

There are movies I make exceptions for, but that's only for my favorite movies. I don't buy everything I liked or even everything I really liked. I now only buy movies I know I'll watch again and again.

I'll also buy any of the animated Disney classics and Pixar movies (except for A Bug's Life, because I hate it), because they're good movies, and they'll have value in the future, if/when I have kids, who can watch them over and over.

I think collecting movies is no different than buying name brand clothes, or driving a "fancy" car, in that, for most people, it's more about "hey, look at me" than about any practical purpose.

Well to quote what you said earlier.

Quote:
I think I own about 60-70 BDs now, and about 150 DVDs.
I have exactly 42 BDs and about 148 titles on DVD. So you're more of a movie collector than me.

But I sold a bunch of my DVDs within the past few years, so I cheated.
I'll probably sell the few that I double-dipped on Blu-ray.

I don't think my Blu-ray collection will grow that much more, to be honest. In the first few months I went Blu, I used to buy 1-2 new movies every week. Now, I buy like 1-2 a month. I'm slowly cutting down. Like I said, I don't want to end up like many of the people here. I'm not saying it's a bad thing...I'm just saying that it's not the kinda thing I want to do. I really don't want to see my self owning 300+ Blu-rays in the next few years.

I love that Leone boxset. also have 'once upon a time in America' in the below single dvd pile. Futurama boxset bought at Costco and I love that one too.. but the one that I like the most is probably my Almodovar boxset.

I have the most gigantic TV on DVD Collection..... So many!
I just started my Blu-Ray Collection (Blu-Ray's, Blu-Ray's with Slipcovers, Steelbooks, Digibooks)
Before November or December.... I had probably seven Blu-Ray's.

Now I have 98 Blu-Rays! Which is like nothing compared to the people on this forum. I will post a picture once I get to "NUMBER 100!" This will probably happen by next Tuesday.

I am a gigantic Movie and TV buff. I only put TV Shows and Movies I love in my collection. I don't buy anything just to have them, but I sure do love a lot of them though!

Haha. I got hooked on buying DVDs in college, because it was a cheap way to see movies I wanted to see (I'd check the $5 movies each week in the BestBuy and Circuit City ads, and see if there was anything worth seeing). Not much I can do with those now.

BDs are a bit different. A good amount have been gifts, and about 12-15 were received for free (either through contests, or when I got 10 free for buying a PS3). I also picked up about 20 for $5 each, from the Hollywood Video sale, most of which were movies I actually wanted though (there were a couple I bought out of curiosity, just because they were cheap).

Never again!

I'd post a picture, of my shelf, but I don't feel like taking one. I keep all my movies in my basement, because I think they'd look tacky in a living room. The ceiling in my basement is unfinished, so I built a shelf that "hangs" from the beams in the ceiling, along the top of one of the walls, and have all my DVDs and BDs stored there (there are 2 rows to the shelf, and it's quite long).

The attachable antenna is great and all, but once it's on, it is very hard to get off........ So after a couple times taking it off, I was afraid the plastic on the bottom of the antenna was going to tear/rip, leaving me unable to put it back on. So now I keep the Bender head with the Antenna and the Box separate. I do miss seeing Bender in the box though.

yea when i first bought it I took it out to see how it all looks and while i was watching the dvds I had it outside but never attached the antenna. like you mentioned it seemed bit scary taking it off so I tried once and just left it in the box. After finished watching them i put them back in the box so it doesn't collect dust. the included letter written by Matt Groening was pretty funny too.

Oh man! I’m not doing very well cutting down on Blu-ray. The Spider-Man trilogy went down at Amazon UK and is only $29 total shipped when converted to USD. I just had to grab it. Now, my collection will grow from 42 BDs to 45. And you know what’s worse. I already have these on DVD. Sorry, I just love these movies that I’m dying to have them in HD.

Ok, this is my last BD purchase. I promise.

I have a crappy cam and a small collection of BD's when compared to the other members of this forum, but I'll post a few pics either way. Hopefully I can catch up with you all in the coming years . I lent Law Abiding Citizen and I'm still waiting for my shipment of Last Action Hero and The King Of Queens Season 3 BD.
