Thanks. I've already done this, I just wanted to make sure I only needed to do it once.

I am not disagreeing with you. There are a lot of reasons for it. Try cleaning your player. Try adjusting your TVs settings (turn down the sharpness). Give it a shot. Return the Trilogy for a new one and find out if it is on all copies or just yours.

Yes I tried both. And not bad compared with other films - I'm comparing it to Spiderman 3. I'm really sorry, I didn't mean to stir things up so bad. I was just dissapointed. Again I'm sorry.

Grain is what create FILM, if there's no grain , it's either been filtered out or you're watching a dvd and it suck because they DNR it for compression. Most DVD don't have grain and DETAIL because of that and lack of resolution.

BluRay and HDM is the closest thing you can get to the real 35mm film stock in you're home right now.

Again 3 was FANTASTIC! It was just what I expected. I haven't opened 1 up yet. But 2 wasn't anywhere near the quality on 3. Could it have been in the creation of the disc? I haven't heard of it like the old laser discs (which I still have 34 of in my collection). You could get bad pressings in the old laser dics. Can this happen with blu?

This is standart procedure on ALL tv. Sharpness add High Noise information to the picture and create Edge Enhancement.

Grain is PART OF FILM if you EE it you'll just see it more..

I got pounced on when I first showed up here as well. I made a thread saying we needed to right to Fox and Disney, for them to start releasing more movies - or Blu-ray wouldn't make it (since Universal was coming out with tons of movies at the time). I got jumped on quick. I pointed out to people that I was suggesting something I thought was "helpful" for Blu-ray - they lightened up after a bit.

Anyway - can someone else please comment on the PQ for these movies - I am VERY interested.

Are these PQ worth the upgrade?

Please be as honest as you can.

Thanks.

From what i see.. SP2 and SP3 look HORRENDOUS on DVD vs the BluRay. While the Superbit DVD for SP1 look nice for a DVD, but still is a difference on BluRay

You should do it about once a year. As your TV ages from use it falls out of calibration

Spidey was done by the finest people Sony have. LD was an analog medium, where a bad pressing could cause snow and other disc glitches(especially from Columbia, how many great LDs have rotted from them?). You're simply seeing differences in film stocks and cinematography choices, and the fact that Super35 is inherently grainy.

Sam Raimi has a very gritty style in general. Why 3 is cleaner than the rest I couldn't tell you. I can tell you that while I haven't gotten my set yet, the samples I've been seeing are consistant with each film's theatrical presentation

Default Spider-man PQ/SQ not so great???

I'm going to post this again, since my previous thread mysteriously vanished inbetween last night and this morning when I went to check it again. I hope that wasn't a random act of censoring a slightly negative opinion about a BD in a Blu-Ray forum because that would be really shitty.

So, as I stated yesterday, before it was deleted, I felt that PQ on Spider-man was a little better than the DVD, but no where near what it could have been. I was also pretty disappointed in the SQ. It didn't sound at all like most uncompressed soundtracks that I am used to on BD. For this to be a huge title for BD, I thought they would have done a much better transfer.

I watched Spider-man 2 tonight, and I am glad to report that the sound was PERFECT and the picture quality was much better than the first one. It was a bit grainy and washed out at times, so it wasn't perfect, but it was pretty close. I'm glad to see the improvement over Spider-man 1.

I'm looking very forward to Spider-man 3 tomorrow night.

The problems is , nobody but sam raimi knows how the first one is looking. We simply don't. All we know is that it's not of the same ratio, probably was filmed was crappier film stock and then since he made money with the first, Sony upgraded is camera or something like that and it got better..

The quality was good. I think you're just complaining about the grain.

That is the first branch on 2 and it is causing some problems with the 1400. Not sure what the denon you have can do on audio but the new panasoinc might be the best machine for you. If your receiver can decode the audio you would not loose anything from the 1400.

1. I enjoyed all three films on BLU. Not sure I'd say the PQ was slightly better than DVD, but to each his/her own.

2. For those that think Spider-man is dead without Toby M., I'd like to point your attention to the Batman movie franchise. That should be all that needs to be said on the subject.

Default My theory about the Spider-Man Trilogy

The 3rd movie looks very good so I am leaving that one alone in this post. However, 1 and 2 are barely above their DVD versions. I compared a few times and the difference was very small. Usually when I compare titles I find a bigger difference. I think the 1st 2 movies were just rushed out and will be properly remastered at some point in the future. After seeing The Warriors on Blu-ray (a 1979 movie) I know how good old movies can look. Spider-Man 1 and 2 are not even that old and I am sure they are capable of more.

I agree that 1 and 2 aren't big improvements, but I was told I needed to have my head checked for that opinion.
