The CW's "The Vampire Diaries" (Season 8)

I think it's the best new show on the CW in the last 10 years and I think you'd be hard-pressed to prove me wrong. Other CW shows I've liked since 1999 -
Gilmore Girls
Angel
Smallville
Yeah, it's no wonder the CW is having problems keeping their ratings up, most of their shows suck.

Well I would disagree just because I am a big Supernatural fan which too me, at this point in time VD doesn't hold a candle to it's awesomness but as for the networks suckage.............

Well I like OTH also, forgot that one, it's an acquired taste though. Seasons 2-5 were definitely the best, although the gorgeous women on it make just about every episode worth watching.

I only liked 1-4 for me, the show officially ended with everybody on the basketball court and the line "brother, I could do this forever" fade to black, and for me that was the real ending of the once great OTH. It's mediocrity afterwards was just...............disappointing at best.

Yeah with Smallville's writing going downhill and OTH's cast making it mediocre, Vampire Diaries is the only CW show left where I eagerly anticipate new episodes. Can't believe that guy who goes to school with Nina Dobrev that used to post on here thinks she's mediocre.

I have no idea who you are referring to. Several years before Diaries, I became familiar with Dobrev through Degrassi: The Next Generation. Didn't she also release a music cd in Canada? I guess I get where he's coming from though. Her acting has never blown me away, she is a pretty face but there isn't any striking about her.

Not the best actress no but makes up for it by being one of the most attractive women in television.

The CW tends to cast the best-looking women on television. They have a much better track record in that regard than the main networks.

The only knock I have on that one is it never really ended, the last two times I watched it on DVD, I half-expected there to be another episode. Angel's another one they didn't really end, it's a poor habit of the CW's that I hope doesn't extend to this fantastic show.

I am currently on my annual Veronica Mars re-visitation and am halfway through the first season again as of this morning. I really wish they where finally able to get that Veronica movie off the ground for final closure, but it's been rumored for 2 years now and still nothing, but every few months there is another mention of them still trying and how Kristen Bell is still more than willing to reprise the role.

Yeah there were rumors for awhile of an Angel movie and a Gilmore Girls movie but that's all they'll ever be, rumors. I think Smallville is the only CW show I've seen get a TV movie and that one came while the show was still running.

Yeah but with Veronica nearly everybody including the guest stars have all gone on to much bigger careers, with the exception of a few who I still see quite often, and it was a much newer show than the others. We could have a whole VM discussion here, but I'll probably just start a thread for it after I wrap up season one viewership lol.

Anything back on topic for VD to discuss besides how everytime I type that I giggle?

Yeah I just want to say I'm sorry that I've missed about 6 episodes this season and although the actor who plays Damon sucks, I still think this show is incredible and has surpassed all my expectations for it.

I actually feel opposite, I really like Ian Somerhalder going back to the days predating Lost to the movie "Rules of Attraction" and it's actually Paul Wesley as Stefan I don't care for, he's that whimpy whiney vamp that just reminds me so much of Vampire Bill Compton on True Blood. You know the one vampire you wouldn't mind if they died.

Might be residual dislike of the "Adam" character on Smallville, who knows? Stefan and Damon are like that in the books too, I think. Pretty sure Damon's a bit meaner in the books, though. Don't think he ever had an emotional attachment to Elena in those.

Oh right I totally forgot Paul was on Smallville. No that had nothing to do with my dislike, it's not so much Paul Wesley though it's that he is another whiney ass cry baby version of the vampires that chicks love and men hate. I love my vampires ruthless and merciless not brooding and crying over their broken hearts that don't even work. Not to mention considering their blood doesn't pump due to dead hearts, I'll never understand how vampires and mortal women get it on, cause I don't know about them, but i require a beating heart lol.

I think it's just witches and vampires but I've missed about half of season 1 so don't go by me.

I'm pretty sure Tyler is a werewolf. I've never read the books, but based on how in the first couple episodes, when after Jeremy and he got into it, he asked "what the hell is your problem?!" and he said "I don't know" and they happened to pan up to showing the full moon in the background, to me that just screamed "HEY TYLER IS A WERWOLF!" so I've been waiting for something more to come but maybe they are saving it until season 2, but I'll look into that. And Twilight doesn't have werewolves, it had shapeshifters, werewolves transform, those kids just morphed based on the previews I saw. or as Guillermo on Jimmy Kimmel puts it "Hey doggy, you a chupacabra!"
