The Polk Monitor series speakers are frequently on sale at newegg.com and are the same as the aforementioned series in the older design cabinet. You need to check the "email promotions" link on their home page for the promo codes. Right now they actually have the cherry M 60's, CS1, and M40's on sale. A pair of M40's and a CS1 would be a good starter front 3.0 for $188 shipped (if you dig the cherry veneer.)

I got the Monitor 70's for $159 each shipped. I think I would have been fine with M40's. Oops

I don't have much experience with other brands so I can't compare them to the others mentioned in above posts.

I also am looking at getting a Denon 1610... damn upgrade bug :cough cough:
