If the price really is only $80 or $55 retail that is an incredibly good price for an 18 hour season.
18 hours? I thought they finished the last 6 episodes

I could see it being years though until we see some of the earlier seasons. Fox has still yet to release Prison Break season two.

18 hours of actual video - probably more like 17.5 to be realistic. each episode is about 44 minutes once you cut out commercials

I'm resposting here re the first seasons not coming right away on Blu. It appears upon watching the DVDs upscaled, that the first three seasons are sourced from Beta Digital masters (ie SD).
Only with season 4 the series appears to be sourced from HD masters.

The original releases of season 1-2-3 all have ugly "hot" transferts with clipped (burned) whites.
They would need to remaster all those three for BR release, whereas starting from season 4, all they need to do is encode the episodes.

Did Anyone got the recent season 1 DVD remaster ? I would like to know if this reissue had the episodes retransfered onto HD, or the just re-used the original SD masters with better encoding.

That was the first thing that popped in my head, remember the first four episodes of season six leaking online when they did this?

Still cool though, I can see their logic behind it, maybe they're planning a similar Redemption DVD for when season 8 (final season) comes on TV and won't need this boxset to promote those upcoming episodes.

Over here in Ireland I read an interview with Sutherland as the Day 7 was starting here a week after the US and he said the entire series is already filmed and in the can that with the 8 they shot last season they started early on this one similar to they way they shoot Prison Break to shoot the last 16. Remember Prison Break finished up airing on December 22 with episode 16.

He was saying that while he was happy it was wrapped he was also concerned as normally they are only 5-6 episodes ahead and can change things that arent working or the audience doesnt like but this time they cant so on that basis I would take the release date of the Blu as being accurate.

That's an interesting observation. According to imdb S1~4 were shot on the Sony DSR-PD150, which is DVCam, while S5 onwards used the JVC GY-HD110U which is capable of full 1080p24.

Does that mean that the source for S1~4 is limited to around 600 lines of resolution?

CIHD (Crime & Investigation HD) which I have on DirecTV (channel 275) airs repeats of "24" in HD. I saw an episode or two on there in HD while flipping the channels, but I can't remember how it looked.

My first time watching "24" in HD was S4... which has a few episodes airing in HD on CIHD this Sunday. I'll have to tune in to see if I can tell a difference.

Will the blu-ray include "Redemption"? I hope it does, since it sets up the season....

i doubt it as fox would have released it on blu ray back in november if it had any intention, it wouldnt sell nearly as well 7 months later, and i doubt theyd just give it away for free when they charge 20 bucks for it on dvd seperatly

You mean like what Universal did with the mini-series for "Battlestar Galactica" and "Battlestar Galactica: Season One?"

I'd be VERY surpised if S7 doesn't include the movie.

I just pulled the trigger on this as it's $27.98 (Free 5-10 day shipping) at DeepDiscount.com (Amazon has it for $42.99).

Default SD-DVD vs. Blu-Ray

Does anyone know how much better the BD version is compared to the SD version. I am new to Blu and have have less than 10 BDs. They are all movies and I can say they the BD versions are superior to their SD cousin. But I don't know if television series are the same.

I have the SD version of S7 and it looks pretty good on my TV. I'm wondering much better it is on Blu. Thanks!

I just bought Season 7 on blu today and just tested out the first disc, the picture and sound quality is awesome. Probably going to start watching it properly tonight. Remind you i don't have the DVD version of S7 (only S1 and 2) and the blu-ray quality is huge step up from the DVD.

I hope they release 1-6, i only bought S1 and 2 because they were $20 each whereas S3-6 were $50. I'm just going to wait til they release those on blu.

Unless you like grain, 24 season 7 on blu ray is a huge disappointment. There is just way too much grain in the picture. During the night time episodes anything that is black looks like a haze of gray grainy garbage

but if you dont mind grain then the blu ray isnt so bad
