Question Effect of Blockbuster's Blu exclusivity in US stores?

I know this is old news, but was curious as to what effect Blockbuster will make by having all its US stores go Blu-ray rental exclusive?

Default Blockbuster is doing a good job

I think it has caused many to side with Blu-ray, even those that don't know much about either format. I work in Sears part-time, and many customers (mainly families) come in and buy a BD player based on 2 things, one being availability of movies available for the family and their kids (Disney is Blu exclusive) and also because last time they went to Blockbuster they realized they can rent BD movies and not HD-DVD.

Many customers buying the players usually mention Blockbuster in some way, even those that aren't ready to buy know where they can rent the movies once they decide to buy a BD player.

Here's the other cool thing, even non-Blockbuster customers can't miss the huge BD signs in front of the store.

I wish we had a Blockbluster store in my small town, but all we really have is a "Movie Gallery", but they did tell me they will start carrying both formats mid November. I'll make sure I try and persuade those in store to get Blu.

With Blockbuster's eventual collapse (sooner than later), it won't have a long lasting effect. Since they are recognized as a power in home media, their choice of Blu-ray probably swayed a lot of neutral businesses to take a serious, if not convert to, Blu-ray.

I never though that this was a big deal. Truth is Blockbuster sucks and is getting owned all the time by Netflix. That would be a win.

YIKES! My wife manages a Blockbuster - hope it will be a lot later than sooner - just for paycheck reasons alone! I need that income to buy my Blu-rays! Support my addiction.

Unfortunately her store doesn't carry blu The owner has 7 stores and even though my misses has asked him a number of times he won't invest the money to stock my favorite format. I get do rent all I can from their online selection though. But not like having them right in the store.

Blockbuster actually announced this week something along the lines of their 'total access' thing being a big failure. They felt they were focusing too much on that, so they are going to go back to their main focus on higher overall membership for stores.

i guess it ended up costing them more doing those in store exchange.

It did cost them - plenty! But they did add many new store customers through the plan. I believe my wife said that they received $1 on movie exchanges (that's on a new release) from corporate - and that was coming from what they received from the online memberships.

Haven't ever had a problem with movie turn around - that was my problem with Netflix. And since we started with the Blockbuster program early we have no limit on the store exchange - something that is now changed with the new memberships

Netflix is far and above the best way to go for Anime - I do miss their selection.
