I could explain in my own words but wikipedia is right on the money for this one.

Crossfeeding blends the left and right stereo channels slightly, reducing the extreme channel separation which is characteristic of headphone listening and is known to cause headaches in a small fraction of listeners. Crossfeed is used to compensate for extreme separation of sound sources in older stereo recordings. Crossfeed also improves the soundstage characteristics and makes the music sound more natural, as if one was listening to a pair of speakers.

I never have had a headache from listening to headphones, but it does increase ones percieved soundstage (especially for movies and games you get the sense of sound surrounding you). If you're a 'real' headphone user you owe it to yourself to get yourself one. I personally find it much better then any dsp I have ever used.

Going to have to agree about the detail etc of headphones. I recently picked up a pair of GS1000i's and a PS Audio headphone amp. I can never go back to speakers, the level of detail and clarity is astounding.

I use mine strictly for my vinyl however I've been eyeballing a Squeezbox/Music Hall DAC combo for my FLAC files etc.

So no love for The QuietComfort 15's??? My dads started traveling again HC(hardcore), and wants some headphones...

I love the results of the 15's just crazy how much they block out even at bestbuy. It was insanely quite (on a saturday), I can say I didn't listen to music just how it blocked out the noise.

But how overrated are they compared to say the B&W's (which don't seem to say anything about noise reduction)

The reason I am so interested is he said I could also get a pair of $299 headphones which I would love to have not that I go anywhere

Both the Bose and the B and W headphones are extremely overpriced and downright bad headphones (they would be okay for what you pay if they where priced at around $30).

Do any others block noise as well? And could recommend some that you think do the job blocking noise as well

May I ask what your budget is and what kind of sound sig you lik, as well as whta music you listen to.

It's an opinion. Though p5's do have a unique sound sig that some will like, in terms of balance and neatrality the portapros, grado sr60's and many cheaper headphones are significantly better.
