Default Headphone recommendations...?

As an apartment dweller who works nights I find myself in the position of watching movies on my days off late at night... many times around 3AM or later. (I guess that would actually be 'earlier' not 'later'. Oh well.)

So, I am forced to resort to headphones. I bought a pair of Bose Around-Ear headphones at Best Buy last week for $125 and I find them to be so, so. I'd say they are really worth more like $60 bucks. Better than nothing but definitely better than what I had been using.

I have two questions for you audio experts:

1) What headphones do you recommend for home theater? Note: I cannot really justify spending more than maybe $300 tops right now but am open to higher end suggestions that I might consider at a later date.

2) Do you lose any audio quality when you plug a pair of headphones into the headphone jack of your HDTV? Is that really the best way to plug headphones into your home theater system?

Thanks!

CF

I'll agree with both of those. The Monster Beats aren't too bad either.

Skullcandy Skullcrushers. They have an incredible amount of bass and overall they sound amazing. And they only cost 70 bucks!

Siennheiser are great. I am thinking of picking up some of the 350 model noise proof ones.

They are pricey though!!!

I recommend that you check out head-fi.org. You will find a ton of information at that site. I have Sennheiser 650 and I give them a big thumbs up.

I also recommend Audio-Technica ATH-W1000 Headphones (http://www.audiocubes.com/category/H...adphones.html).

I can't say which I prefer more (Sennheiser or Audio-Technica).

I recommend a good headphone amp and cables too.

Cables: http://www.aloaudio.com/

Amp: Http://www.headphone.com or http://www.raysamuelsaudio.com/.

Good Luck.

I also agree with seenheiser and grado but add akg too.

These are a bit more money but improved headphones, est prices:

A) grado SR-80 $95.00/Grado Statement GS-1000 $995.00/Grado SR-125 $150.00 stereophile magazine recommended headphones and Grado SR-60 $69.00.

B)Sennheiser PXC 350 noise canceling folding headphones $249.00.

C) Akg K701's $399.00. another stereophile recommended component.

The holy trinity of headphones IMO: Grado, Sennheiser, AKG

Go with sennheiser! I have the ~ $100 HD 280 pros and like them more than my friends 300 bose headphones.

At around $100 you must look at the HD 280 Pro. I think I saw them for $80 somewhere.

Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro's.

For HT they rock because of their awesome bass response.
