What's wrong with Pixar doing sequels, they have never made a bad film, EVER, look at Toy Story 2, now wasn't that better than the first one? Yes it was, so no need to worry, anyway we Brave right in the middle of it and also, also excluding Toy Story 3 which was wanted anyway, it's only two sequels, so what are you complaining about? Pixar wouldn't be making them if John Lasseter didn't beleive there was a story to be told, they aren't all about money, unlike most studios nowadays, this is why they have never made a bad movie, just think about, these sequels are not cash-ins.

Newt maybe cancelled, but the chances are there will be another original story after Monsters, Inc. 2, since apart from The Incredibles, no other Pixar film would work for a sequel. The only reason it seems like there are a lot of sequels is because Pixar have really only ever been abaout original stories and also, to date, the only movies they have offically annouced will be released are the sequels. I to am sad that Newt ahs been cancelled, but if Pixar are bold enough to make sequels, which have a reputation of being bad, then it shows that there is another story to be told.

Apart from Toy Story 3, which no one is complaining about, it is only two sequels. You make it sound like they're doing a sequel to everyone of their movies, which they're not. Just remember that Brave is coming out right in the middle of the lot.

I wil guarantee you that after Monsters, Inc 2, Pixar will get make to making original movies.

Default Newt is not cancelled.

Bob Iger, CEO of Disney, stated in their earrnings report

"As part of that increased production, Pixar will be releasing a number of sequels, including "Toy Story 3" next month, "Cars 2" in 2011 and "Monsters Inc. 2" in 2012. But Iger stressed the unit was mixing those sequels with a number of original releases, including "Newt" in 2011 and "Brave" in 2012.

"We are not forcing sequels into the system unless we have directors and storytellers who have good ideas for the sequel," Iger said. "We didn't mandate a sequel on any of those."

Very good article and proof that Pixar aren't relying on sequels. Strange though that he mentions Newt and yet that has been cancelled. Maybe it isn't offically cancelled yet and/or trying to work on a new script for it.

Every studio is about money. Without it, no films would be made. Bring on the sequels, more the merrier. As long as they try to improve on the original.

Kind of glad that Newt is cancelled. Sounded a bit to left wing political Pixar porn.

I know, I was simply trying to get the point across that Pixar spend A LONG time on their films, sometimes two years on the story/script, which is why they're so good. What I was trying to say was they don't just churn out more and more films every other month because they're selfish and want more money. Basically Pixar do what all studios should to make a buisness - great story, acting and visually brilliant, which is why they're possibly the best studio in Hollywood at the moment.

But that doesn't explain why Pixar doing sequels is a bad thing. If you're saying that Cars was 40 minutes too long and so doesn't need a sequel, what you have to remember is that Cars 2 will have a completely different plot, so that's not really a reason not to have sequel.

I find it strange that studios put out films knowing that there is a small chance that they will make a profit. Like you said, if they all took there time in development like Pixar, then we would have far fewer films, but maybe better made ones.

But that's it isn't it, even if there is a small chance, it is still likely to make some sort of profit which means more money. Really 85% of all studios in Hollywood are selfish and put strict deadlines and dates on the producers/directors, which is why they can't create good films.

If it was cancelled, that would mean the story just didn't work out. It happens all the time, although most studios then do some rewrites, to at least get something on the screen. Pixar isn't falling into that trap. There could be another project that steps in it's place.

Not a huge fan of Cars... it was alright, but at the bottom of the list of Pixar movies for me. Not excited at all for Cars 2. Wish Pixar would stop with the sequels too but I'll take what I can get from them. They're consistently good in their story telling so every movie is worth my dollars imo.
They can make sequels all they want, so long as they throw in originals from time to time.

Regardless. Having 75% of your upcoming movies as sequels is just wrong.

I'm going to start rooting for Dreamworks: they do a lot of sequels and spinoffs, but at least they have three original projects.

I agree about the sequels. The great thing about Pixar for me used to be, that they had the guts to make a movie with an ORIGINAL story. Some of those stories i absolutely love (Wall-E! Monsters! Cars! Incredibles! Nemo!), other i don't (Which doesn't matter).

Just playing it safe with sequels is pretty sad and not very creative imo.
