I'd get a Western Digital Black 500gb. It's more space than what you need but the performance between it and the Raptors aren't that great. Plus you have the extra space if you ever need it. |

![]() http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-555-_-Product but honestly if the OP is interested in WoW and specifically load times, my SSD's made a huuuuge difference in load times. there pretty much isnt any lol |

I'd still go for the MSI. You'll enjoy the nice cooler and it won't pose a problem for crossfire either. Anyone who builds a crossfire system should already have a decent airflow anyways. |

My PC**** I actually need to take an updated picture as I put a GT240 in for dedicated Physx / HDMI out to a TV. It's old but I can get a couple more years out of it except for a GPU upgrade in another year or so. Also the loading time difference was huge when i moved to SSD, even general usage is better. not really any more fps, maybe a bit smoother when it has to load something on the fly. but ill never go back to a mechanical drive for my boot drive Last edited by BLindsay; 05-20-2010 at 02:45 AM. |

"At 330 USD the 600GB VelociRaptor is at the upper end of the mainstream platter based drives. 2TB drives that are priced around the same offer real world transfer speeds equal or greater than the VR200M, but also offer three times the capacity. These drives don’t offer the same user experience found in 10K RPM drives from the reduced access times, but you have to weigh where your priorities rest." --Of course access times will improve a users experience. I (keyword: I) still don't think the price of SSDs or Raptors are worth it in terms of performance gain to price. If I had bottomless pockets I'd be all over a high end Intel SSD. For somebody who is on a budget you can't beat the price/performance of what has worked for so many years. I wouldn't even bother looking at any 6gb/sec spinning hard drives. The first generation of them don't have very positive gains. I'd still go for that 500gb Sata 3g Western Digital Black for good performance at a great price! |

i'd like to give ssd a try. how do you guys feel about refurbs? the sata 6.0 raptors are out of my price range so i've dropped the idea of raptors all together. im considering a low capicity (32-64GB) SSD for around ~150 or a cheapy 80gb 7200rpm sata. On newegg i'm seeing some 32GB SSDs selling for about the same price as a 64GB. is it safe to assume these high priced 32GBs are faster? sorry i'm clueless on SSD.

But yes its basically why there is such a price difference (some can be attributed to the name like intel), but the speeds are listed at least on new egg so you can see the access numbers Quote:

And out of curiousity have you ever owned a a good SSD or any for that matter? Well i have 2 and i can tell you from first hand experience and not from reading crap online that it is the single biggest difference in overall computer performance i have ever done. |

So yeah i read it quite fine you are changing your story. And you avoided my second question, have you ever owned an SSD? cant really speak to them if you dont own one. |

No I do not own an SSD. Common sense I thought would have told you that. My mistake. Have I operated a machine with an SSD? Yes I have. An OCZ Vertex. It was a smoother experience. Lower access times help out greatly. Still, this is MY opinion, not YOURS, mine, me, myself. I can't justify spending that much more money for one yet. My old drives from 2007 still do everything perfect still, not quite as fast, but not near slow enough that I'm going to shell out more money for far less space. I actually own and use on a day 2 day basis 2 intel X25-E's and again they were the single greatest overall improvement from a machine ive seen from a single part edit: and to be honest sequential peformance means jack sh*t lets compare random reads/writes |
