I've got 82 hours into it and i'm a little into the NG. I'll easily put close to 40 more hours, which would by FAR be the most played PS3 game hour-wise. Also, this game doesn't have traditional "grunt" enemies which can throw people off. You can easily be overtaken by a couple of the first enemies in 1-1, even after leveling up. With the tendency system (both world and character), weapons, armors, bosses, magic & miracles, secrets, PVP, etc, you have one hell of an adventure awaiting you. This game is super deep, and even after 80+ hours there's still tons to learn. This game reminds me a LOT like Castlevania SOTN, which is still today considered one of the greatest games made. I haven't touched FF13 since getting this game. What's odd though is it starts off brutally unforgiving, and gets easier and easier as you play. This would definitely put off people who have short exposure to the game, like people that rent it for a couple days. It truly is one of the PS3 best exclusive games, and I can't wait for DS2. ![]() ![]() |

I will agree with one thing, the lack of any instruction sucks, and without the wiki and other sites would make this game crazy to try and figure out. I don't agree with bad camera, as I've never had a problem with it. The lock on system has minor hiccups, but nothing that takes away from the game. Voice chat would be cool, maybe in DS2 |

Yea I agree voicechat would be awesome. It's been so crappy trying to write messages back and forth with people trying to tell them what to do. It would be awesome if they made it so you can play with your friends easier as well.

Anywho. Camera issues are the same issues that plague most games. Instead of making an intelligent camera that reacts appropriately to walls, it will press up against the character potentially changing your movement and obstructing your view. Die Hard Trilogy for the Playstation avoided this by simply having any walls behind your character turn invisible. And, unless I'm crazy, Max Payne just turned quasi first person. I feel the lock on system has two issues that severely detract from the game; tying back into the camera. The first is locking onto an enemy you didn't intend to lock onto. It forcibly changes your perspective and controls which occasionally causes you to run off a ledge. Doesn't happen a lot, but often enough to warrant mention. The second issue is the odd way it's practically essential to use for most encounters, however, you can only lock on to an enemy within a certain distance of your character. Possibly done for ranged balancing, however, arrows and, especially, spells are useless against a ranged moving target, anyway. Primarily an issue for me when lock is broken while moving backwards, which can again lead to all sorts of hilarious unintended results. |

Yea I guess...I really had no problems with either. I will agree there had been a couple times where you might lock onto a enemy and fall off a ledge, 3-2 and 5-1 I can say would be the worst for that. The only issues that I may of had with the lock on would be when there is multiple enemies or enemies in the far off distance. Why anyone would use homing soul arrow? I dont know, it was very useless imo. But for me it didn't really detract from the game in anyway. The only thing that did was dying countless times -_- But I agree your really not going to find any game out that is perfect any way, there will always be some sort of flaw. But it's all about personal opinion really.

DS2 seems inevitable though, as DS has far surpassed anything From Software could have imagined. I would have loved to see an option at the end of the game to be able to change character gender carrying over all soul levels, weapons, etc. to be able to tryout different armor sets and keep the gameplay fresh as opposed to playing the same character for 2,3, or 4 playthroughs.... |

Hmm I never even tried that on them I don't think. I just used firestorm on maneater which was an instant kill. And I just used soul arrow on flamelurker, homing soul arrow just never seems to hit anything. ![]() |

It can take a bit of finesse getting the little orbs to connect, but it's nice since all you have to do is run past Flamelurker. I think I only had to cast it three times to beat him in NG++.

Nice I'll have to give that a try, I have yet to make a character that is mostly magic based or strength based for that matter. I just keep beating the game over and over with the same character. I wonder how people play the game so many times they max out all they're stats, that would take a decent amount of time.

It's not just Flamelurker or Maneater. Homing Soul Arrow is THE best boss killer spell for Penetrator, False King, Flamelurker, Old Monk, Old Hero, and Garl. It's about tied with Firestorm for Maneater. Firestorm theoretically does more but can miss.
The Black Phantom/old King Doran fights as well. If you are mixed a lot of these bosses are better killed with melee or bows, but if you want to use magic HSA is really really good. And none of this is considering that HSA just eats up red-eye knights and ministers as well, along with a lot of other weenies creatures. As you might tell, HSA was my favorite spell in the game by the time I was done. |

Hmm I have never used it on any bosses. Sometimes I'll equip it because I'm tired of using the same spells. But I cast it and it will shoot before I am even close enough to the target and totally miss. It's just never done the trick for me, I have rarely used it which is probaly why I have problems with. I just used the regualr soul arrow and that worked fine for me. When I get back I'm going to start the game over with a new class. So does anyone here actually still play the game lol? It's been a while for me...

Game is too Frustrating. I played 8 hours today trying to kill ManEater and the last freaking boss on the 3rd world. Way over the top frustration and cheap deaths, have to get rid of it before I get a heart attack or break the disc in two.
