Way too early to pronounce this (not to mention all formats die eventually - look at vinyl records

). LaserDisc and Betamax both had much larger market presence than HD DVD has today or will in the near future, and both formats sank into obscurity. If either format is still alive and kicking by the end of next year's holiday season, then we can talk about permanent market presence.
