I'll re-iterate what I said on the other thread -- Thank God Del Toro is off The Hobbit. He's much too good of a director to spew more by-the-numbers Hobbit junk. Now he can get on to making some good movies.

It's not all that bad, maybe he can go on now and make At the Mountains of Madness, now that is what I want to see.

I never did want Del Toro to do The Hobbit. I'd rather it look like LOTR, and not Pan's Labyrinth. I hope PJ ends up doing it afterall. He says he doesn't want to compete with himself. I think once he got into it, it would come natural, and have the look and feel of LOTR, as it should.........

I for one am glad he is not directing it anymore. I am not a fan of his films, or his directing style.

The three LOTR movies are my all time favorites! But, I loved the books first. PJ did an excellent job with all three movies. They are the only movies of his I've seen, that I liked. I bought District 9 on BD when it came out, because it was his. I was very disappointed...... I think PJ is the only one that can direct The Hobbit, and do it justice.

you are probably correct in that statement....but with all the turmoil behind the scenes who knows if these movies will ever come to light.....it sucks that this had to come to pass....but we'll have to wait and see if something good comes froms this......

GDT would have been perfect for this project. I now have a fear that someone like Len Wiseman will get to do it.

Bring on Hellboy 3

As long as Peter Jackson is involved, these films should turn out just fine, maybe he'll direct them himself now.

Wasn't The Hobbit listed as one of the reasons he would't do (or wouldn't for a long time) Hellboy 3?

Well, somebody's calendar just opened up

Yeah Hellboy III is something that needs to be done soon, if they want to use Ron Perlman before he starts needing walkers or other artificial apparatuses/supports.

You all know what this means... NO LOTR EE on Blu

Unless someone at WB comes to their senses (not likely) and decides to separate it from the release of The Hobbit, by which time we'll all have beards as white as Gandalf's.

Well i'm glad Del Toro isn't directing The Hobbit, in my opinion he adds unnecessary gore, and all his creatures look alike no matter what movie they are in; I didnt want to see little fairys and laberinto del fauno creatures on lord of the rings lore.

You're forgetting that Peter Jackson added some pretty gory scenes to the LOTR movies as well. Plus, the same design team will work on The Hobbit, no matter who's directing, to make the entire series visually consistent. Guillermo del Toro is a great director, from what I've seen (still no Pan's Labyrinth, need to check that out) and it's sad that MGM's situation prevents him from directing this. Hopefully we'll get an equally suited director in his place.

Me too, we had a near-miss with Sam Raimi possibly being hired as Director and were incredibly lucky enough to get a visualist like Del Toro. So much work has been done on this film for this to just be put on the back burner. I empathise with Del Toro and wish him all the best for his future projects. I'll add the fanboy wish (from me, as one!) that we all want to see Jackson direct The Hobbit. He won't, i'm sure, but we can hope anyway.

Looks like Del Toro gave studios the.....

.....and good for him. One hype ends and the next one (who will direct?!!) is just beginning.

I've had a bad feeling about The Hobbit for about a year now. This bit of news just confirms my belief that we will never see this great story come to life on the big screen. There's just been too many delays and I don't think MGM will ever get all their issues resolved.

Oh...that's a very good point.

Now would that not be something if they went ahead and released that in the 4th quarter this year.
