Default AVCHD No longer working

Here was my problem. About a week ago a new blu ray that i bought was not playing. I think it was Dirty Harry. So I connected up to the internet and downloaded new firmware at all was good. Somewhere in between then and now I forgot to disconnect the ethernet cable and it took another firmware update. This time the firmware has rendered half my collection, AVCHD on dual layer dvd useless. I tried resetting the machine to factory defaults by booting it up and pressing the FF for 5-10 seconds. That didn't help. I tried putting older firmware on a USB stick and updating that way but the player comes up with an error message. Any idea's or is this thing now a doorstop to me?

Hi guys,
I own the bd-p1600 for about a year now and love(d) it. I recently started burning my own avchd dvds and did one which was dual layer (8.5gb) and it worked fine. I then went and created another one, only this time, when i insert it, the setup menu pops up. So I called tech support, and they checked everything and said my firmware was a version old, so had me update my firmware. After doing that, not only the dual layer dvd that didnt work still doesnt work, also the one that did doesnt work. For the one that did, i get a pop up box saying "this cd is not playable"

Maybe its the brand of the dvd +R DL i am using. Does anyone have experience in burning DL dvds and watching them on your bd-p1600?

Looking forward to hearing from anyone.

Gil

I really hope next firmware update will fix this.
So far I only had trouble with The Hangover, but I have a couple of new WB titles coming and Iīm kind of worried if itīs gonna work or not.

Default Found a fix for the wb freezing issue...revert

http://www.mediafire.com/?xc1xmmzwtrj

I found a way to get around the freezing issue with WB discs after firmware update 2.09, download the above file and extract it to a usb flash drive, make sure your player has no disc in it, turn it on and insert the usb flash drive, the player should automatically recognize the file. upgrade(downgrade) to version 2.08, after I did this, (only took 5 minutes) I was able to play Clash of the Titans and The Losers, 2 titles I was not able to play before.

If you call samsung they will tell you there is no way to revert the firmware, that is a boldfaced lie. and they will also tell you that version 2.09 does not have these issues, that too is a fabrication. from this point on I will not be updating this players firmware until I can't play discs on it again.

Plus from what I heard, Samsung wants up to 160 dollars to repair the unit. There IS NOTHING WRONG with it, the firmware is faulty. Just an FYI to everyone.

PS, I am not responsible for anything that may go wrong, just trying to help. this is for the Samsung BD-P1600 unit only!!!

You rule. Thank you so much. I just had the most obnoxious phone call with their customer service. Thanks for finding this.

not a problem, I just don't think anyone should have to pay for a repair that probably won't work anyway.

Good find!

Question....the p1600 and 1590 are essentially the same unit correct? If so, I will download this and keep in a safe place just in case I need it in the future.

Thatīs great news!
Only problem is that this file wonīt work for me, for my player is from Brazil, so Iīd need the XAX file, which I havenīt been able to find yet.
Will keep looking tough.

sorry to hear that, I didn't think about that being a problem too, I looked the file you need, and I can't seem to find it either, either way, I will likely not buy any samsung products in the future. The fact that they won't admit to their faulty firmware update, when it has been PROVEN to be the problem, is reason enough for me not to purchase anymore electronics from them. Im likely gonna end up just watching BD's on the PS3, at least I know it will work.

Sardaukar you are a Class A Genius !!! Many thanks and 10 free Internets to you!!

I knew there had to be a way to fix this issue with my BD-P1600 and when I saw your post my eyes lit up. Reverting back to 2.08 did it for me perfectly. My problem was trying to play Book of Eli (Netflix rental disk) and Harry Potter 5, both of which are WB. With 2.08 they both work great.

Thanks again!

I had the same issue with my player. Locked up on Losers, Bad Cop, and Clash of the Titans at the spinning disk where it's loading the menu structure off the BD. The Samsung site has the 2.08 version of the firmware (look at the top of the support page for the BD-P1600). I downloaded it to a flash, installed the flash in the host USB in the back, and the player rolled back. Works great now.

Managed to sort the Clash of the Titans problem on the BD-P1600 without having to downgrade the firmware.

Also had same problem with the Hangover.

Make sure you have the latest firmware installed. I think its 2.09
Remove the disc and close the draw.
Hold down the fast forward/skip button on the front of the unit.

The unit will now reset itself. When complete the disc should work along with any other Warner Bros Titles that had stopped working.
