I'm very interested in the bi-poles. I want either bi-pole of di-pole for surround duty but I'm thinking I want bi-poles for the front height speakers...not sure if that would be better that direct or.....?

But the SVS SSS speakers were dang nice...a little pricey compared to the Emotiva di/bi-pole but I will say that they sure looked good and I really wanted to hear them.

Actually since i bought my sub at sonic boom , i could pick a pair of these up for 489 , which is similar to the axioms price wise and bigger drivers .

And will have to reinforce wall for these puppies .

The are heavy but nothing like the weight of the Onix Rocket RS300's those things were around 25lb a piece "I think". I had a pair of them "di-pole" and they sounded not to bad...but they were so heavy that I sent them back and got another set of RS450's.

Of course now I'm planning on some Sig Digms for the front "in the distant future" but I'm really wanting these SSS, I believe they will be perfect for me.

Anyone have any thoughts for Front Height speakers? Should one want to get direct, di or bi? Does it really matter?

The most recent addition to Bipolar/Dipolar surround speakers is from the Home Theater Direct. They sell Level Two and Level Three speakers. The main difference is that their Level Three speakers have ribbon tweeters and are considered to be higher end. For years, HTD has been selling monopole bookshelf speakers for surrond application. I contacted a few days ago. They told me that they have been testing the new speakers for the past couple of months and they perform much better than their bookshelf monopole speakers. The specifications for the speakers should become available before the end of September 2010.

The price of the new surround speakers until yesterday was $179 each. As of today, they raised the price to $189 each ($378 for two). Despite this small increase, I believe they are a very good deal. It is rare to find bipole/dipole speakers with Ribbon Tweeters below $400.

Their other speakers come in three colors: Dark Cherry, Black, and Light Cherry. Currently, the bi/di surround speakers are only available in black. I assume that they will eventually be available in all three colors.
