I'm not going anywhere. I am keeping the MPEG-2 version and disc 2 of the DVD and that's that.

Why would one person's opinion change minds?

This is the reason we get more and more junk transfers like Gladiator. Because if this sells, it sends a message to the studio that 1) it's what the people want, and 2) it doesn't matter what the movie ends up looking like. So they give us another Patton, another Spartacus, and people complain on here but they still buy it!

Great message you people are sending. Thanks a lot for helping the future of blu-ray.

Interesting comment but completely irrelevant to my question. It was a nice try though. I'll give you one more chance.

I repeat: Why is DNR applied? Who developed it? Can you find an interview with someone important explain the use?

I know you don't like it, but can you explain why it is used? I don't think you can.

And at the same time, if no one purchases it, the studio will think there's no demand for that title.

I for one will be keeping my mpeg2 release (and it'll be the one I show friends). This new version looks.... odd. It sort of reminds me of how the makers of Animal House were upset with the HD DVD release because it was never supposed to be a pretty film. To me, this is a film that's supposed to be dark and gritty, which is the exact opposite of what we have here.

Looks nice and clean to me. I'll be buying it immediately.

From what i've read, Digital Noise Reduction in terms of Home Video was created for Digital Masters for DVD and TV, because the resolution of TV screens at the time could not resolve the grain information present within the film masters. DNR was applied to smooth out the image and remove information which could not be resolved at the then current resolutions.

1080P HDTVS and Blu-ray Tehcnology have sufficient resolution to resolve the grain present in the film masters and all the fine detail found at the same level as the grain structure of the film.

Absolutely. Hoping the audio is more dynamic as well.

LOL which is prefect, since we already have a release and should be getting releases of films NOT YET on blu-ray, not remaster after remaster of stuff that's already out.

Movies are fake. And honestly, from the rest of the screenshots... that's the only signifigantly hinky one.

As has been noted already, it's due to his shirt throwing off the DNR process. So it looks off.

It's also a still, it shouldn't be nearly as obvious a problem when the scene is in motion. So I'm sold.

For a variety of reasons.

It gets films that have been out a while that stores might not carry copies of to order it.

And these movies often sell better than many of the most wanted B-movies.

And of course, whenever there's a sequel or remake hitting, new editions are released to draw in sales.

This looks like something Lionsgate would have crapped out in 2006, not a 2010 release from 20th Century Fox.

If you want your movies to look like HDTV then watch HBO HD, leave the Blu's for us who want it to look like FILM (you know, that stuff the movies were shot and released on).

I hear you guys. I really meant a lot of us will be buying it to compare after all this talk about it...not because we think it is better.

I'll give you the sequel thing on this particular title, but it's still unwarranted and pretty useless, especially considering how bad of a job was done. I want to see how many "average" people who already got the original edition for $9.99 re-buy a marginal film just because it's getting released again.

Not everyone is going to consider it a "bad job". It's a manner of taste.

And people double dip all the time. And this release actually at least has the extras.
