Just attended a Q&A with Ridley Scott between screenings of Alien & Blade Runner. He talked a little bit about both Alien prequels he's doing... and said the first one will focus on the central question that he's surprised no one's asked yet: "Who exactly WAS the Space Jockey?" He imagines it's a suit.. but he wouldn't say who, or what, was in it.

That way there's capacity for the summer stuff that starts coming out in October
I would have thought that Avatar special edition would be their xmas anchor.
The alien quad came out dec of 2003, so it would make sense for it to be an xmas release.

Nevertheless, Im very much looking forward to it.

Btw, Jeff do you expect that the Alien prequel will be horror based like Alien or be more action like Aliens?

I do wonder how they plan to have humans present in this film since the first film was based upon the notion that the Alien derelict was unknown to humans. I get the feeling that the prequels will end with the Nostromo being commissioned by Weyland-Yutani so it deliberately passes by LV-426 (Acheron in the comics) for the Nostromo crew to make contact with the carrying of mineral ore as a ruse. Although the presence of Ash suggests that was always the companies intention, which btw was David Giler and Walter Hill's contribution to the film according to Ronald Shusett. Funny thing is that Shusett said he was greatful for that contribution. O'Bannon said he despised it. Im with Shusett on that one, since the company is as much the bad guy in the alien series as the aliens themselves.

One thing I would like is for Scott to give the film an old-school look. To keep consistency with the look of Alien.

Speaking of oldschool I would like to see someone attempt to make a horror film that uses more oldschool style and has an oldschool film look to it.

Not for catalog

I expect it to be closer to the original, but I don't know anything concrete

A sigourney weaver cameo would be cool, too. They just really need to make sure that CGI de-aging can help a lot!

The evil! I wonder how actors and actresses feel when that happens. I'd feel kinda creepy.

although very true. parents dump their kids off on gaming consoles these days and they dont play much with toys either.

Of course it would help if toys these days didn't SUCK do bad. No toyline has come remotely close to matching the awesomeness of the original Transformers. Toys were made so much better back in those days. GI-Joe was fun, too. As were some of the original Star Wars.

I'm amazed how good Sigourney Weaver continues to look. Talk about aging gracefully.

She does, but she doesn't look like she did 30 years ago No matter how gracefully you age, that just doesn't work I'm personally happy she hasn't felt the need to get a pile of work done, she looks natural and I wish more would follow her example

A friend of mine sat next to her in first class from Denver to San Francisco a couple years ago and he said she looked great in person (considering her age).

My only airline encounter was Haywire from Prison Break. He's from Philly and I guess was visiting his family out here. I didn't say anything because by the time I spotted him I was 10 rows back My friend who was picking me up at LAX confirmed it was him though

I would argue that Pat looks younger now than he did then. I saw him in Dune and he hasn't changed.

On another note, its AWESOME that Warner is releasing the Exorcist on bluray now and that it includes BOTH versions of the film. What I am concerned about is the look of the film considering that Friedkin made a terrible choice on the French Connection. His film or not, it looked terrible.

Is it possible to develop the BD LIve service to do something usefull, f.ex. to handle subtitles? I would love to be able to download a new language file on the fly!

really hope someone from the Bits can confirm whether of not the announced "The Exorcist" theatrical cut blu-ray has had the color timing changed, a la "The French Connection" bd.
today's announcement says both versions are included in the upcoming release, but does not address this most important issue.
thanks!

Well, those two shots are drastically different distances. Get up to the same distance and you'll see it. I can see it pretty easily between the two anyway. Yes, he looked old in 1987
