Best PS3 Audio Hookup for Bluray movies - Blu-ray Forum

hey all. i have the PS3 as my bluray player with a sony 6.1 receiver that doesnt have hdmi. Im using the optical output to the receiver and the hdmi out to the tv for video.
so i assume the best i can get over optical is dolby/dts 5.1
should the ps3 audio output setting be set to PCM or bitstream?

is there any way to get the higher audio formats?
my receiver does have analog inputs for each channel.... is there some kind of hdmi audio breakout adapter??

HDMI via an HDMI receiver.

No adapters. I just crossed this bridge myself last week and upgraded to an HDMI switching receiver. That's the only way you're going to get all the new hotness via PS3.

ugh.... didnt want to spend any more money for a new receiver... seems like someone could make an adapter or separate breakout box

Theoretically, yes, but HDCP concerns, piracy concerns, copyright protection, and probably some other technicalites I don't know about mean that almost certainly never happen...at least not legitimately.

what'd you end up getting? are you able to get LPCM 5.1, truHD and DTSHD?
