I have watched every episode and the show hasn't really evolved at all, it's pretty much about losers who will always stay losers. Something bad will always happen, and i'm sure even with Casey and her apatow movie something will happen. Her role probably gets cut haha. But since all my favorites from the show, Adam and Ryan will be on much bigger shows where they can show off their abilities, i'm much happier.

Starz Cancels Party Down... Worst news Ive heard in a while. It would be a hit if it were on SHO or HBO. They would of lost Adam Scott for 7 of the 10 episodes for next season as well.

Sad news but not surprising. I thought season 2 was great but losing Ryan Hansen and Adam Scott for the majority of future episodes doomed the show. Gravity was also canceled, although I've never read anyone who had a positive opinion on that show.

Not suprising but I think its a show that could have been done with rotating characters since the show is based on characters waiting for a big break and could of definitely played off that with good casting and with Adam coming back for 3 episodes.

I hope you mean worst tv related news, cause if that's the worst news you've heard apparently you aren't familiar with what's going on in the Gulf right now...

Considering I only watched the show for Adam and Ryan and they are moving on to much greener pastures I'll definitely be following them. I figured there was about a 3% chance of renewal so not shocking at all.

Well here's some good news to come out of the cancellation and on a much better network....

Rob Thomas Speaks Out on Party Down Cancellation—Is the Veronica Mars Movie Next?
Quote:
Rob Thomas, the mastermind behind Party Down, the series Starz just stupidly canceled, just gave me his thoughts on the "disappointing" news, and what he's working on now.

Psst...Please oh please say it's the Veronica Mars movie (Rob created that show too). Or hey, even a Party Down movie would rock...

Alas, Rob tells me his next project is something new with new characters. The upside? It's for a network that has a pretty bangin' track record as of late. "I'm writing a drama pilot set in the world of corporate espionage for Showtime," Rob says when I asked if he might be working on the V.M. movie.

Showtime + Rob Thomas = Magic, according to leading mathematicians.

As for the heartbreaking (to us fans) cancellation of Party Down, Rob tells me: "I'm not sure that any of us are terribly surprised today, but we're all really disappointed. One of the things we loved about doing the show is that we felt like we got to write to an audience of our circle of friends. I think that's exactly who ended up watching it. So, in that respect, mission accomplished!"

Indeed. And anyone who saw Friday's episode—with the return of Jane Lynch—knows how crazy good this show can be, for those of us who shared it in that circle.

Now the details of the cancellation revealed earlier today...

File this under news that totally sucks.

Starz has decided not to renew critical fave Party Down after just two short seasons, and tons of love from TV folks like us. Unfortunately, the numbers simply weren't there (in Nielsen terms, just about no one was tuning in!), so a third season is off the table.

Explains Starz executive vice president of programming Stephan Shelanski, who also announced the end of freshman series Gravity today:

"After careful consideration, we've decided not to continue on with subsequent seasons of Party Down and Gravity. We're grateful to everyone involved in the shows, and are proud to have had them on the channel. Starz remains committed to aggressively expanding our original programming lineup."

P.D. fans can still get a minifix of its stars by tuning in to see Adam Scott on Parks and Recreation (whenever that returns) and Ryan Hansen in NBC's new fall series Friends With Benefits. But...sigh...it just won't be the same without Lizzy Caplan and Ken Marino in the mix, will it?

Say your sad so longs to Party Down and Gravity in the comments below, then start petitioning Rob to get going on that whole V. Mars thing. Don't worry, we'll join in, too.

I was really hoping for that, hes been saying its his next project for a while. As long as it happens I will be very excited. Hopefully they can get funding. Id much prefer a low budget to stay closer to the show than a bigger budget that would need to be more of a popcorn flick.

Just read the whole thing, looks like VM isnt his next project but hopefully he can work on it once he is done with the Pilot, Im sure he'll have some time in there.

I read the Party Down finale got 74,000 viewers. No show is going to survive with numbers like that. Gravity did even worse with 54,000 viewers. Starz has a new president that was at HBO when they turned down Party Down.

Yeah Starz shows have numbers that somehow are lower than Damages on FX, although FX is available in probably 70 million more homes. The ratings where always garbage for Party Down so I never expected even a second season.

Its just so wierd that a network that is trying to get into Original Television and they cancel such a great show with amazing potential that may be the only show in TV history that would be able to sustain losing one of its main characters every season.

I am still holding out hope for a reunion/reboot on Netflix or something. I think the cast on the show have gotten a lot bigger, so it would be cool now if they could all team up for a limited series run on Netflix or something. Cast can take a month or two and film 6 quick episodes.

I enjoyed it, but never thought it was great.

Definitely think Megan Mullally helped make season 2 much better/funnier than season one.

Not Netflix, but a 6 episode limited revival is in development back at Starz.

I could see each of the 6 episodes dealing with members of the previous cast who have now 'made it' in whatever field they were trying for and throwing parties, the way Jane Lynch came back in season 2, if nothing else.

Starz greenlights revival

Everyone is back except for Lizzy, who sadly was unavailable

Quote:
Adam Scott, Jane Lynch, Ken Marino, Martin Starr, Ryan Hansen and Megan Mullally have closed deals to return for the new season. Not coming back is original cast member Lizzy Caplan, whose schedule could not accommodate Party Down’s 2022 production start, believed to be in mid-January. The busy actress, who just signed on for Paramount+’s upcoming Fatal Attraction series reboot, had an existing commitment to the FX limited series Fleishman Is in Trouble, whose shoot overlaps with that for Party Down, creating a scheduling conflict that could not be resolved.

The Party Down revival, whose development was announced by Starz in March, is executive produced by the original series’ creators/EPs, Rob Thomas, John Enbom, Paul Rudd and Dan Etheridge, as well as Scott, who was a producer on the original. Enbom will serve as showrunner.
