I certainly look forward to this. But I'm not hopeful, and will continue to buy the occasional SACD/DVD-A.

No update is required AFAIK, I believe that the profile exists basically to give developers a standard for BD titles with no video content or only optional video content.

Regards,

Chris

Just ordered my first BD music discs - concert discs actually. Quincy Jones 75th, Elton@60, Stevie Wonder Live at Last and Celine Dion Live in Vegas. Keeping fingers crossed in anticipation.

I hope BD audio goes beyond concert discs. I also hope, in terms of genre, it does not get stuck at mostly jazz and classical as with SACD and DVD-A. I think this is part of what helped to undermine those formats. BD multi-channel audio will be great for old school soul and rhythm'n'blues - Smokey Robinson, Temptations, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles.

Just to be clear, those are standard Blu-ray discs, not BD Audio. They're concerts shot in HD with hi-res soundtracks.

Default Yes, Yes, Yes!!!!

Not only am I interested I've purchased Neil Young's Archives Volume 1 (and will continue to purchase them as they come out), Tom Petty's Live Anthology (the box set comes with a Blu-Ray Audio disc), pre-orderd Tom Petty's Mojo and started a Facebook page dedicated to posting every blu-ray audio title I run across on the web (and I continue to look almost every week for new ones). This is a awesome format, it's the only digital format that I have heard that sounds as good or better than any high-end turn tables playing the 180g records. If you love this format show your support on my facebook page and any forum like this so that the music industry will hopefully listen to how they could stop complaining about record sales and give the fans a format most would love if they just heard it! Anyone that has a Blu-ray player has the ability to play any blu-ray audio only title, I was thinking it would be as good as SACD and DVD-Audio, but was absolutely blown away at how good my Panasonic Blu-ray player sounded, it's a no brainer in my book.

Thanks. Keep this list up-to-date please. I have TP Anthology on BD-A and just ordered TP Mojo. You are right this is a no brainer. I'd like to see more artists issue BD-A. They could start with re-issuing the SACDs that sold well and are already remastered in 5.1 format -like Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon, Elton John, and Eric Clapton. That may help get the ball rolling faster.

While high definition audio is not a new idea, the war between DVD-A and SACD effectively killed the formats, preventing them from becoming mainstream.

There have already been some audio releases (such as TrondheimSolistene: Divertimenti and Nine Inch Nails: Ghosts I-IV), but nothing from the larger music studios. I am taking a poll to gauge interest in the idea of Blu-ray music, so please answer honestly.
If I can hear the difference, I am in.

Profile 3.0 would generate interest for the audiophiles but for the average person MP3 sound quality is good enough. For some sad reason most people prefer quantity over quality.

I *am* interested in Blu-ray audio... heck- I've been interested in hi-res audio since I first got my dvp-s9000 dvd/sacd player and discovered both sacd and 96/24 pcm, and then later when I got my bdp-s5000 blu-ray player and heard some really great 96/24 concerts (in various BD formats) + some truly amazing 192/24 content from 2L (check 'em out). I've literally been chasing hi-res titles over the years, hand-picking the best titles regardless of format (SACD, DVD-A, 96/24 pcm, BD 192/24, etc)... hoping that one of these days, one of these hi-res formats would finally win- that studios would then adopt the 'new standard' in mass, and we would all finally have the broad selection of hi-res music we've all been waiting for.

Not sure that day will (ever) come... but if it does, I will be standing in line with cash in hand. (Sony, Warner, Capitol, Columbia- are you guys listening?)

Default Rush Moving Pictures Blu-ray-A

The latest release by Rush of Moving Pics on Blu-ray-A represents the very best this album can be heard. Period. Generally speaking, while I cherish many of my SACD and DVD-Audio discs, too few of my fav artists released albums in those formats. Hopefully, we'll see more in Blu-A the near future unless streaming/downloading ends up putting the kibosh on the format.
