ok I'm going to throw this out there. Lets say in the next 6 months the Hobbit Movie gets the green light and Jackson and Ian decide to get involved. What's to stop WB/New Line and Jackson from rushing it? I mean Jackson has his own stuff to do.

I bet they'll get Michael Gambon to do it, if he's still alive.

That would be very ridiculous to film without Ian. It seems to me that shooting schedules can take many different forms and they could fit him in somehwere, especially with a long shoot like The Hobbit. I sure hope they can get it to work out.

I really hope they get this whole situation resolved at MGM.

As it stands, if it goes on too long we could lose McKellen as Gandalf and Craig as Bond

Um...you did notice what they did to Arwen for those LOTRs movies...right?

Besides, they could just use this guy here. Once they throw a hat, cape and beard on him, he will be virtually indistinguishable from McKellen anyway.

[Show spoiler]

Right now, I'm less concerned about who plays Gandalf, and more concerned about whether or not the whole project gets dropped.

I think it's starting to look like the best-case scenario would be for Jackson to shelve the project for a few years, like he did with 'King Kong', and pick it up again when there are fewer obstacles. I think the project as we have come to know it over the last couple years, is all but dead. The wheels are coming off, and it will take a miracle to get this back on track now.

Gandalf!!! You said what I wanted to post. You were always upstaging me, even in Valinor.

I think this was part of the rush to get PJ on board with the Hobbit. This was reported as a sure thing last week, but all lines have gone silent. I wonder where things broke down.
