I haven't seen it. Is it online?

I've been Fast Forwarding thru all the commercials in my haste to get thru the daily Tour de France stages and still have time to watch the World Cup games in their entirety.

No, somebody else this time.

I delayed commenting about/answering your post a little while back regarding Roger Ebert’s evaluation of The Last Airbender in 3D until I got a chance to see the motion picture myself because of Roger’s inherent bias against any 3D motion pictures to begin with.

Sadly, I’m “outing” the CEO (not Rob “Clash of the Titans” Hummel this time) but rather the CEO whose company is responsible for the 3D work on The Last Airbender, namely Aaron “The Last Airbender” Parry ….
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cqjNu...ayer_embedded#

These gentlemen know how to ‘talk the talk’ during a panel discussion but, I highly recommend them to ‘walk the walk’ with their next 2D to 3D conversions. The ‘bender’ motion picture in 3D (what 3D?) looks like strike 2 after Warner Bros. infamous Clash of the Titans 3D retrofit.

Dude, I'm watching the final in Moncton, New Brunswick. I'd take Manhattan any day (isn't that a song? oh, right...)

If you're eating, go here. My fav restaurant in NYC, get the tartarre, it's awesome.

So would I... any day without a toddler in tow, that is.

Thanks for the recommendation!

o.k., I know that at least one of the Club members here is a serious investor (translation – he’s retired while the rest of us poor blokes remain in the rat race).

So, here’s a heads-up in case your broker has ties to the lead underwriters for the IPO offering (which could be as early as next week), in this case, namely, J.P. Morgan and Piper Jaffray do the honors.

Apparently the price range is $13 -$15.
The boringly official regulatory filling here…

Here’s the Cliff notes version…
http://biz.yahoo.com/ipo/p/rld.html

Further research here, if your interest has been piqued….
http://blogs.iirgroup.com/?p=25991

How the take-up is with this public stock offering will be closely watched by many investors as well as non-investors on both coasts.

Look, I thought I already did a favor to you folks by not spoiling a climactic scene which I viewed at a pre-screening on the lot several weeks ago…

Now, you want me to pimp the movie of a DP who publicly bashes the Digital Intermediate process as an excuse to justify his personal choice of optical workflow, not because of any real technical deficiency of DI as he claims (hell, we’ve been doing conformed 4k digital negatives and black and white YCM separation protection masters for years to future-proof the asset) but, really because Wally is just still more comfortable with traditional old-style optical workflow.

Your killin me Doc.

o.k., have you paid your dues like all good Editors should?
If so, RSVP here

I keep thinking it, but I wasn't going to say it.

I'm glad to know I'm not alone, though.

BTW, Penton, that screening's on Wednesday; which part of the weekend is that?

I dunno, Wally P's thoughts on the use of DIs- even at 4K- conform with some other well-thought of DPs, at least when it comes to movies that are shot in 35mm anamorphic (which seems to be Wally P's preferred capture format). Darius Khondji said much the same in the 'AMERICAN CINEMATOGRAPHER' piece on CHERI- that even at 4K the DI didn't look as good as the straight "analog" dailes printed off the negative. In fact Khondji said that when shooting in anamorphic 35mm the ONLY reason to do a DI is if there's a lot of digital post work needed (which in the case of CHERI there was because they had to 'erase' lots of modern structures from shots). John Bailey also had an interview in a recent AC where he too argued against using DIs on anamorphic films (although he was forced to do so by the studio on HE'S JUST NOT THAT INTO YOU), so it's not like Wally P is some lone renegade nutjob on this front.

As Wally is so passionate about keeping things analog if possible I still wonder why the Imax prints had those mucked up 35mm sequences - he normally should have hated how they looked and there is no doubt that they could have been made to look less "digital".

Kudos, sir. You once again shame those of us lazy North Americans that barely speak English, or, if you prefer, 'Merican.

Hell, my French is so bad (even after spending a year there trying to learn the language), last time I was in Paris ordering food, I almost accidentally WON a war!

I don’t believe so. Vincent, I don’t think you’ve personally heard some of his anti-digital intermediate rants like I have. He is much more dogmatic than other D.P.s and I really have no problem with his personal choice of having an optical workflow done in post for a motion picture he shoots but, when in reality, the reason being he is simply more comfortable with that post process… don’t bash D.I.s to justify your personal comfort zone.

The fact of the matter is that when I go to my local cinema (non-IMAX), I don’t see the fruition of his 35mm anamorphic film come to pass.
