It's not useless. The 1080p Youtube of the Anthology trailer shows the clarity and grain that you would expect in a good blu release. Maybe you should watch it before criticizing it.

You mean the BD you are already trying to pass off as scrubbed... without seeing it. This is getting to the point of being comical now.

Thanks for the reply. Let us know how that works out for you because it sure sounds counterintuitive to me: entering online a code from a paper coupon so that you can . . . print out a paper coupon.

From the looks of the HollywoodMovieMoney.com site, the Promo Code simply helps you identify which theaters are running which promotional discount on which films. I'd be surprised if the program has changed to a scenario wherein the physical coupon included in some home vid releases is not necessary to get the discount. That would open the program up to rampant fraud.

Well, I picked up the Hunter Edition today at lunch. I will compare it to the original version tonight while actually watching the films on my 60" lcos display at 1080p/24 instead of looking at screenshots on my LCD monitor. lol
I'll post my thoughts later. I'll just sell off whichever version I feel is inferior.

Did someone crank the DNR knob up to 10 and scrub today's nonsense out ?
Would be the first good use of it if so.

Thanks for this. Film stock vs intent was facinating reading and fleshed out the info in the extras on the UHE Edition for me.

I'll buy it either way, but I would prefer a box set of Alien/Aliens only.

That's not going to happen until at least next year.

Glad I could provide you with some amusement. Now gaze into the face of your enemy. A perfect representative of the target market for UHE. Be sure to listen to his closing comments on the PQ.

When you go to the movie money website and enter the code, you are first asked to select a theater in order to verify that one or more of the three movies is playing there. So, be sure the movie you want is playing before you complete the submittal. Once you do you recieve a printout that contains a virtual Discover Card with a unique account number. It may only be used once, so obviously it shouldn't be shared. At the kiosk it is processed as a $10 debit card transaction. If the ticket price is under $10, your good to go. If it is more than $10.00 you will have to pay the difference. If it is less than $10.00 you cannot apply that difference to anything else so be prepared to buy your own popcorn.

It worked just fine for me. Ticket price was $9.50. I attended the first morning showing on the first day it opened and I chose to see Predators.

Enjoy.

Did you watch it on your computer screen or your home theater display?

I saw the Predators trailer and guess what there's a scene in that trailer that's been doctored so it isn't really in the movie!

I just watched it again in 1080P. I may have watched it in 720p before. But I'm watching it on a 15.6" Toshiba laptop. It's a very short clip and Sigorney's face is very, very shiny and I saw no grain. Kind of like Arnold and Carl, but with no mustach.

I have watched all the alien movies in the theater when they first opened. Also owned Alien on VHS and DVD. That 1080P clip sure looked 'updated' to me. Just watched Aliens Collector's Edition on Netflix Streaming last week (720P). That didn't really impress me very much.

If you are referring to the shot of Brody with the multiple red laser dots targeting him, that is not doctored, it was included intentionally. Its been mentioned in a number of reviews.

Grain is evident in all the clips to varying extents. I was especially looking at Aliens, which has a lot of grain to begin with. The clips look like they had minimal DNR done on them. If they are indicative of the complete movies then I will be satisfied with the restoral FOX did to them. Of course, until we see the entire films, we won't know for sure, but I'm heartened that the fundamental qualities of Alien and Aliens (the two I'm concerned about the most) haven't been drastically altered like the UHE.

This is my take on the clips watching them 1080p on a 27" 1920x1200 monitor from 18" away. Since this is the UHE thread, I won't continue to comment on the Alien Anthology here.
