Hey, everyone!

After installing my new PS3 last night, I immediately signed up for folding@home. Looks like I've already made the rankings! I'm listed as drsiebling...

Question: I was planning on just leaving my PS3 on 24/7 so that it can fold whenever I'm not using it. Will this cause any harm to my PS3? I want to avoid a situation where it overheats or is simply running too long. Has anyone had any problems doing something similar?

I'm excited to finally be contributing!

well lets just say you will sure hear that fan blowing unless you get a cooler for your ps3 but other than that it wont cause any harmful problems to your ps3 at all

I noticed that despite the massive amounts of PCs running this that the totally amount of processing power, TeraFlops, was by far the highest for the PS3s.

One thing I've noticed is that my PC gets much larger chunks that the PS3. Now, I know my CPU is decent but it's still much slower than the PS3.

My PC idles about 20 hours a day, so I know it's churning out some good work--but I can churn through 2-3 work units with the PS3 and not even 1 on the PC!

So, are they larger chunks of work or is it just that much slower?

I think the PS3 is just faster at processing these things with the cell processor.

I'm folding with both my PS3 and PC, but I haven't calculated the exact speed difference. However, the PC has a very nice CPU, but the PS3 is just so much faster.

Oh, and we are now #214

What Stanford says is CPU's are good at complex problems and GPU's are good at doing it fast but not complex. They say the CELL falls somewhere in between the two and they allot that accordingly. Also WU's for the PS3 are capped at 8 hours, that is meant to let a user leave folding running while they sleep and get a WU done.

So basically they assign different complexity's of WU's depending on what you are folding with. AKA those multi day folds on your comp will get you many more points then a single PS3 fold. (If your a stat ***** )

with the pc version does it just fold on its own while you are using your computer or do you have to do something?
