I just watched BATMAN RETURNS.....oh dear, this was not a very good blu ray. It felt like full screen and the tru hd sound was mainly in the front. This film has not aged well. 4/10.

Ip Man.

If you are about to build a Martial Arts BluRay library...start with this.

It is a cornerstone that will support everything you can toss on top of it.

Kill Bill Volume 1 5/5
PQ 5/5
AQ 5/5

How can I put this into words?

Just two and a half minutes into this I experience a huge surge of emotion. It's when Bang Bang starts up. It's like a trigger that reminds me what I am about to see and it almost makes me want to cry.

I relish every minute of this film. Uma Thurman was born for the role of the bride and I think she's perfect. The movie suggests extreme violence, but shows hardly any of it, just the result. The cuts are convincing and have the same effect as if you had seen the violent acts.

It took me five years to bother seeing Kill Bill because I don't embrace things with senseless violence. I expected Thurman to prance around with a samurai sword, hacking people to pieces. In fact, she pretty much does, but there's so much more to the story.

First of all, she makes me care. Her back story makes her actions seem justified. But I also feel pity for Oren Ishii when we see her childhood (brilliantly portrayed anime style).

There are so many little details that I love, even down to the way Oren removes her shoes and the water breaks the silence in the snow.

Thurman, Lucy Lui, Daryl Hannah and David Carradine have never been better.

There's a lot of Tarantino's tongue-in-cheek humor throughout the story. The dialogue is brilliantly written. The use of music massively enhances the experience.

The result is breathtaking and I come back to this more than any other movie. That said, I think Kill Bill 2 is even better because we learn more about the characters.

This may be the most entertaining movie I have ever seen. It's ranked 11th in my all-time list, but it just might be the one that makes me grin with happiness the most. It's a wonderful ride.

I know Tarantino isn't to everyone's liking, but he seems to target people like me as his audience. Kill Bill feels like it was written just to entertain me.

Ah, I could go on and on and still fail to capture what it means to me.

The presentation is just about perfect too.

Don't try and label this or dismiss it because of the genre. Tarantino has a genre all his own. I couldn't recommend it more strongly.

National Treasure I

Film: 3.5/5
-fun easy film to watch, I use it as a "Criterion refresher" in between mass Criterion viewings

PQ and AQ: 4/5

National Treasure II

Film: 3.5/5
-I'd say its pretty much even with the first. The only thing I don't like about the NT films is the reduction to the cliche good guy v. bad guy. Why does there have to be a "bad guy"? Can't the film just be about Cage trying to find the treasure? And the hunt/struggle itself be the "bad guy"? It just seems like the historical/treasure hunting aspect alone is more than enough to go on, and it erks me when the film gets sidetracked to more cat and mouse of good v. bad guy that seems forced. The bad guy is just thrown in there like a bone, to fit some kind of worn-out, tired, format. my 2 cents.

PQ and AQ: 4.5/5

This movie is on par with ANY classic WWII film in every way.

Had it been made in the 60's and had an American Allstar cast, it'd be mentioned with The Great Escape.

It's brilliant.

The Losers

Perhaps this one should have stayed in the comic books.

A status quo plot, a played out script, and nothing new brought to the table here.
Even the obligatory "your Mamma" jokes were doubled up here and oh yeah, the several different 'penile' jokes/ references were used early and often. I dunno, it just seems like writers block when that schtick is overdone (all too many times these days).

No character development other than one Loser likes kids soccer?

The upside is a few decent actors and the action sequences were not bad but, terrible CGFX on the blowing up stuff parts.

Not gunna add this the library but, that's just me.

The BluRay PQ was horrid as well. Judder, moires and just overall focus at times was a dissapointment.

Good news for those that liked it...the ending sets up a sequel.

The Road

5 out of 5

End of the world type movies have always held a particular fascination for me. So when I first saw the trailer for this I couldn't wait to see it. The Road tells the tale of a man and his 11 year old son struggling to survive in a post-apocalyptic world. A world where all the animals are dead, hunger is ever present, bands of cannibals roam the charred countryside, and their only defense is an antiquated gun with only two rounds remaining. While there are other characters - an almost unrecognizable Robert Duvall and Charlize as the wife who gives up hope - the film is really about the father (Mortensen) and the son (Smit-McPhee) and they carry the movie. Both give great performances and thoroughly draw you into the film. While not technically a horror movie, a number of scenes and imagery are particularly horrific and haunting. About the only thing I didn't like was the ending, mostly because in my mind I had a different outcome envisioned. It is however faithful to the acclaimed novel it's based on, so you can't really fault it for that. This is simply terrific filmmaking, it's one of the best of the year, and it will stick with you long after it's over.

Clash of the Titans (2010) - I loved this remake. They stayed true to the original and still stood on its own feet. This is how a remake should be done. They didnt butcher the original but added new ingredients to keep the film fresh. Sam was great in his role as Perseus. I loved Ralph Fiennes as Hades also. Gemma Arterson is very beautiful and I hope to see more of her in films. The effects in this film were excellent and I was involved from beginning to end. I had watched the original not to long ago and it aged badly so Im glad we have this remake to still keep the story and franchise alive. Cant wait for part 2. It will be interesting to see what they do with the story now that it will be original.

Film Rating - 4 1/2 stars (out of 5)

PQ - 4 1/2 stars (out of 5)

AQ - 4 1/2 stars (out of 5)

Got Em!!

I was wondering about this. Also, they don't have The Neverending Story on blu either... been waiting a while for that one

I know what you mean. But I do believe that the presence of the bad guys helped create time constraints on the plot, forcing the heroes to work faster or deal with the complications. I think it creates more urgency and tension.

That's just what I think though. The story's still pretty average either way.

It's not good news, the sequel will never happen, this film flopped considerably hard. I think I gave it the same score as you, yet I seemed to like it more.
