Default Night Of The Living Dead

this is a public domain title now I believe (Night of the living dead 3d was released due to this) is there any chance of it coming to Blu-ray (the 1968 or 1990 version)? also I'm curious as to what studio would own the rights to it if it hadn't gone Public domain.

both Anchor Bay-Starz and Fox released the original version on DVD,
and Sony owns the rights to the 1990 remake.
so chances are it will come to blu-ray.. but i dont think the original would be worth a hi-def release.

Yes it would. I've bought that movie on nearly every format available. It's one of my all time favorite horror movies ever. I've had it on VHS, laserdisc, the Millenium Edition DVD (the red case). I'd buy it on blu ray in a heartbeat.

I think what he meant is wether or not the picture or sound would benefit from Blu. It was a pretty low budget movie and, correct me if I'm wrong, wasn't it filmed in 4:3?

I don't know how much of a benefit it would be as far as PQ an AQ, just for me personally I have always purchased it on the format I'm currently watching movies on. I imagine they could do a little something with it, I doubt it'd be significantly better than the SD disc.

Yeah the orginal Night of The Living Dead was shot in 4:3.So if it was released in High Def there would be black bars on the right and left side of the screen.

I just dug up my NotLD DVD and it's the colorized (B & W version included) version of the 1968 movie, released by Fox, why not release this on BD now, or add a third option "stereography" include a couple those red and blue glasses even though this movie is old I prefer it to the 1990 and the night of the living dead 3D version.

I liked the 1990 version with Tony Todd and in color. That's the one I'd like to get on Blu.

I this he played a better Ben than the original. and I liked Barbra alot better in the 1990 version, she actually added something to the movie in the 90's version but there was something different, between the 2 versions, a chemistry or something but I just preferred the 1968 version maybe because that movie scared me at one point (I'm not going to spoil it)

Yeah, the scare factor in the 1990 version wasn't quite there, but to me it was more visually pleasing and of course gorier as well.

Yes it would be worth releasing in hi-def. Just like the low-budget, independent classic, Halloween was worth releasing in hi-def. Age and low budget should not disqualify a film from hi-def.

I'd get the original but not the remake. Something was lost on the remake, same as the remake of Dawn of the Dead. The movie lost the intellectual edge that kept me curious.

It doesn't matter that it was filmed in 4:3
Just because it's HD doesn't mean it HAS to fill your widescreen TV.

The only company that has released the original 1968 version of "Night of the Living Dead" directed by George Romero on DVD with an impeccable transfer is Elite Entertainment. Their "Millenium Edition" is the best (outside of a Blu-ray release) version of the film ever placed on a home video format. Before I sold off most of my DVD collection, this was one of the titles I really debated selling, it is nearly a pristine transfer.

If it is "worth" a Blu-ray upgrade depends on the condition of the original source. Film has vasty more "effective" resolution than a 480p DVD...and typically a lot more than a 1080p Blu-ray. Even a "cheap" film can be restored to great, Blu-ray worthy condition if the original film elements aren't totally trashed...look at Halloween on Blu-ray to see what I mean.

I hope they do it, I have the other two and the series won't be complete without it.

Obviously there are the remakes and land of the dead which would be good as well, but those three are the originals.
