Pixar Shorts on the PS3 - Blu-ray Forum

Alright, so I got the Pixar Shorts Blu-Ray and everything worked fine until I installed the new 2.00 firmware upgrade. Now all it plays is the previews up until the FBI warning. After that it doesn't load anything else. It just sits with a black screen while apparently outputing a 5.1 PCM audio track. I've exchanged the disc and I get the same exact problem. I've also turned off the news ticker to see if that helps but so far no. I got it load once, but that was out of like 15 different tries. It also did it once with Ratatouille but hasn't done it since. Anyone else experiencing this?

EDIT: Actually, now that I think about it, I did get it to work a few times after this firmware upgrade. It started not working on Friday and I installed the update Tuesday night. So I guess it stopped working around the time that I installed the Uncharted demo.

2nd EDIT: Yeah sooo... in order to get the disc to load. I need to let it go through the previews. Oddest thing in the world. But it works every time now.

Hi everyone,

I just got my latest delivery from amazon today, I got cars, hollow man, fifth element and Pixar Shorts. Firstly cars "WOW" best blu ray to date, but my problems lie with the Pixar Shorts Blu Ray. When I put it into my Australia PS3 it seems to load up ok, I get the language option screen then it goes on to play previews of meet the robinsons and the rat movie, then after the FBI piracy warning screen comes up the screen goes blank and nothing happens.I cant reset my ps3 or quit playback using the remote. Has anyone else encountered this problem??? Ive decided to send it back to amazon for an exchange, its the first time ive had to send something back, how quick are amazon to exchange things?? im dissapointed because i really love those pixar shorts and now I have to wait longer before I can see them.

Can't offer too much help here other than to state that I experienced no such problems with the Pixar shorts in my U.S. version PS3 60GB. I'm also running f/w 2.0.

heres hoping, I installed 2.01 today but because Ive already sent the pixar shorts disc back I have to wait until amazon send me a new copy before I can try it.

2.01 didn't fix my problems on my 60gb US PS3... Previews still load, gets to the FBI warning and then never loads the Java so it just sits with a black screen... Like I said, I've already exchanged the disc once so it has to be something else (and it works on the BDP-S1 so it's not the disc)

my pixar shorts has played OK before 2.00 update, and into this latest 2.01. I haven't had any probs.

Using 60GB US - swapped to a 250GB (even though the PS3 only formats upto 205GB)

It doesn't sound like an encoding thing... I am not sure if that title is region coded but I wouldn't think so.
Still, it might not be the disc. Try it on another PS3 from the same region if you can.

No help here---my up-to-date 60GB PS3 has had no problems with the Shorts BD being played daily since its release (the kids love it, and I can let them watch four or five and still keep their viewing time under half an hour).

Did you pop up the java menu in order to skip preview movie commerical and FBI warning screen.

) is getting wrapped up and thrown under the christmas tree for my daughter.

I've tried a few different things, I'll list them actually cuz a few of them actually worked which is pretty messed up.

First thing I tried, during the previews just pressing the main menu button, which has never worked. Second thing, letting the previews play through without pressing anything, this worked twice and then stopped. Third thing is skipping the previews by using the chapter skip key. Now, the only time this has worked has been if I press skip in the right parts and also skip over the little commentary thing right before the FBI logo. But that's only worked a couple times as well. Unfortunately, I don't know anyone else (at least not close to me) that has a PS3. Like I said, it plays fine on my BDP-S1 so it has to be something on the PS3. Just like when the audio drop outs were occuring on Disney titles while using PCM.

Don't know if this is related but I have discs where most of the controller buttons don't function, and I use the remote instead to skip/navigate etc
