I love the (mostly) one man show. Will Smith does a really good job in my opinion, he's great in this.

Yea the CGI was weak for the dark seekers (stupid name by the way)/animals, but I don't think that should be a knock against the actual movie...just the technical side of the production.

Besides, the rest of the movie's practical/special effects (run down NYC) looked quite good.

I prefer the theatrical ending to the alternate one. I can appreciate the realization in the alternate that
[Show spoiler]HE has become the monster by experimenting and killing all of these people that still do exhibit human characteristics (even though he thinks they are totally devoid) and that he ceases his experimenting and goes to the colony with the woman and child
but I prefer the ending we got in the theatrical where
[Show spoiler]he gives the woman the blood of the infected with the cure in it and he sacrifices himself to protect it.

The Korean flick Mother is a pretty solid. film is 4/5 picture 4.5/5 sound 4/5Great directing and a riveting performance by the female lead make this a worthy film but the story is very strong as well. The twist ending is simply perfection. Make sure to add this one to your netflix at the least.

The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day

First off, I love the original movie. While the concept of vigilantism has been around for decades in film, it was never communicated in such a way. The original movie was both entertaining, and made certain statements about society. After all, isn't the first purpose of film to entertain, and the second to create a message? If the first movie focused on the message, the second seemed to focus more on the entertainment. I'm OK with that. I already know what the MacManus boys are all about. Still, it was refreshing to see Il Duce's beginning as a killer, even catching a glimpse of the first version of the gun vest.

I was a bit skeptical of Clifton Collins Jr., thinking that he would simply be a stand-in for Rocco. He wasn't. He had his own personality, although I would have liked to have seen him involved in what the boys were doing on a more personal level. It was like he was waiting for them to come along just so he would have an excuse to kill mobsters. Still, he was very funny, cool and it was always hilarious to see the brothers making fun of him.

The humor, slow-motion gunfights, and light-hearted moments were back. During the first half, I sometimes felt the humor needed to be left behind and the serious tone needed to come into play (although I absolutely loved the 70s-style-grindhouse-scene), but the second half delivered that aspect very well, so it balances out in the end.

Julie Benz. Hmmmm. Attractive, intelligent, fun. But the southern accent is so thick I had a hard time focusing on anything else. But I'm getting more and more used to it (seen it 6 times now).

Still, none of my complaints stopped me from enjoying the movie. I watched it for what it is. An over the top-low budget film that was written to please fans of the original. I took it for what it is, and I think I'm better off for it.

Many people criticize Troy and the films themselves, some going so far as to say fans should go kill themselves. The internet, where everyone thinks their opinion is fact, and everyone is a hardass. If you don't like the movies, fine, but please, don't insult the intelligence of the fans. Liking something that you don't doesn't make us any less intelligent than you.

I hear Troy can be a bit of a douche. Maybe that's true, maybe it isn't. What isn't true, is that the movies do not rip off of Tarantino. I like Tarantino's work, but he was not the first person to do the flashback narrative, dual wielding of pistols, slow motion gunfights, etc. etc. That's like saying Halo was the first good shooter. All movies borrow elements from one another. They're called themes and archetypes.

The ending is really good and definitely Troy Duffy's magic moment of "All Sainst Day". All in all, a very enjoyable film that gives the fans a taste of what they've been missing for ten years. The editing is a little spotty at times, and not everything hits the right beat, but simply to see the boys in action again was enough to make me smile and laugh out loud, and once again, isn't that what movies are supposed to do? Its supposed to entertain us.

4/5

New Clah of the Titans 7/10

Entertaining movie. Alot different from the original movie. Now I wonder which story was the legit one. How it was really told. This was made to have a sequel.

To me this wasn't a remake it was a retelling.

It's a tough one to describe. It seems simple, but it's incredibly complex. The explanations you find online are mind-boggling. I saw it two years ago but don't remember enough of the complexities to really share what it is that made it such a good film. If you don't see the complexities or read about them, you won't like the film. Much the way you won't like Triangle if you think it's a straight forward horror film.

I thought it was extremely average and the special effects poor. I gave it 2 stars (out of 4).

Survival of the Dead

Let me start by saying that I absolutely love Night, Dawn & Day. They deserve 5/5 stars more than anything else in this subgenre. But I was disappointed by Land. It was okay and better than most zombie movies that came out lately, but it just lacked something. I don't know what exactly, but it felt heartless somehow. Especially the last 30 minutes were really disappointing imo. Diary was even worse. It was just annoying and stupid. To me it felt like Romero's first big failure in the dead series.

When I heard about Survival I didn't set my hopes up too high. I knew I was going to see it the day it comes out, because of what Romero achieved with his first 3 dead films. But where my hopes high? No. So I went into this movie with an open mind and was pleasently surprised.

The moment I saw the sarge in his uniform, smoking his cigarette and talking about the dead, I knew this movie would be better than its two predecessors. And the following ~ 80 minutes proved me right. The actors did a pretty good job and were much more likeable this time. The storyline and the characters were also much more interesting to me than in Diary or Land. The cinematography was really beautiful and one of the best things about this movie. Every shot made Plum Island look gorgeous. I also really liked the Western style. The gore is present throughout the entire movie. Needless to say that Romero saved the best for the ending. There were some obviously fake looking CG gore effects, but the humor made them seem less goofy.

Talking about humor. Survival is full of it. I reall dug this element in this entry. It really improved the movie imo. Social commentary? Of course! It is present and works very well with the rest of the film. In Diary it was extremely obvious and not interesting at all, but rather annoying. I'm glad Romero didn't make the same mistake twice.

If you are looking for a scary movie then you're at the wrong address. This movie is not scary or frightening, although there was one scene that made me jump in my seat lol. I also really liked the ending.

All in all, I really enjoyed Survival of the Dead and it's without a doubt Romero's best zombie movie since his original dead trilogy imo.

3.5/5

As Good As It Gets 5/5

It's not often that a romantic comedy gets Oscar consideration. This was nominated for seven, with Jack Nicholson and Helen Hunt winning.

It works because everything comes together. The script is smart, without being insulting to the audience. The acting is superb with Nicholson, Hunt, Greg Kinnear and Cuba Gooding Jr. all on top form.

Nicholson plays a dysfunctional author with OCD and a whole lot of prejudices. He doesn't think much of people in general and despises his homosexual neighbor (Kinnear). Hunt's character saves him and makes him take stock of his miserable life.

The interplay between the the three main characters is excellent. You end up feeling sorry for all three and then hopeful. These are people to care about.

It's currently No. 28 on my all-time list. I'm hard to please when it comes to comedy. Basically, I don't like any of the dumb stuff that's forced down our throats. I find that comedy works best when it's inserted into dramas. This is one of those occasions.

One of my favorite lines in any movie of any genre happens to be in this movie:

[Show spoiler]Q: How do you write women so well?
A: I just think of a man and take away all reason and accountability

I'm not sure that Nicholson, Hunt and Kinnear have done better work than this, and that's saying a lot.

Release it on blu-ray immediately!

Just watched IN BRUGES with Colin Farrell. Very, very funny in places, worthy of a rent for anyone interested in films about hitmen.

Yep, it reminded me of Tarantino and the Coens at times. I finally bought it today.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

This will not be an actual review since I said I wasn't going to write one and I only review ones I actually own, but I did say I would give my opinion after watching it. If I do decide to buy this, then I may actually type out a full review for this then. I thought it was great. I will definitely check out the remake, but I have to agree with jhiggy that it is going to be really hard to cast Lisbeth. Noomi was so good that I am going to have a hard time picturing anyone in the role but her. Thanks for praising this film so much, jhiggy. It took me a while to finally watch it, but that's the reason why I was interested in watching this in the first place.

One question about the dubbing. Is it actually any good, and did Noomi do the dubbing for Lisbeth since she actually speaks English? I watched it with the subtitles as suggested, but was just wondering.

It seemed very whats the word, retarded and discussing.
It was a little slow, although thats not the worst part of that movie.

The writing, especially at the ending was ridiculous.
And overall, it seemed a very cheap movie.

And I dont hate it, I just didnt like it.
