The surest way is to send the old one with your info, and wait for them to send you the replacement.

The way most people see it, there's no rush. It's an old movie we all saw a few times, and quite recently I might add. So patience is a virtue. It's not like we have to rush to BB to get some advanced copy of INCEPTION or anything.

I sold my Gladiator disc last year right after I put it in. Took it straight to FYE and traded it while it was still worth a few bucks.

Yesterday, I bought Gladiator at work (Best Buy). I found one that didn't have the 2-disc set icon above the Paramount logo on the back. It was missing on all the slipcovers, but it was still showing on the insert inside the disc case itself on a few copies. Luckily, we had one copy that was missing the 2-disc set icon on both the case and the slipcover. It was in a thicker non-stretchable plastic wrap, and didn't have a white security sticker on top, but all of the other copies did...so I took a chance.

It's the new version...and let me tell you....it looks PHENOMENAL.
And just for the record, on my copy the UPC code is NOT yellow.

yea tru, if u have the old one that is (i didn't), and didn't want to get scooped out by some other blu-ray person...especially since stock is always low here, and who knows when/if they'll re-order it if that lone single copy is still there...and ordering online seems to be a toss-up

also i would like to confirm that my copy is the new transfer, and it has the serial with R2 at the end on the back...and i don't think anyone has much to complain about, it's pretty amazing, if u don't think it's up to stuff you should check the serial on the back cuz u might have the old version. also confirming same white upc AND it has the expired coupon on it AND it's a smooth gray disc

That's what Paramount did for the fixed Saving Private Ryan and that's what's been done here. That makes it easy to separate from old and new copies.
No, all the copies at my work (Best Buy) that are remastered still have a white UPC code on them, just the absence of the 2-disc set icon above the Paramount logo on BOTH the Slipcover and the case insert itself.

Lots of confusion as to what is the new and what is the old it seems

Seems like a pain that the indicators aren't correct each time.

Hopefully by the time I pick this up around Black Friday or when it hits $15 again all of the old version is gone and nothing but the new remains so I don't have a chance of getting a bad copy.

That's odd Paramount clearly stated that the new version would have the YELLOW UPC code.

Default Got the remaster today!!!

Picked up the remaster today at BB. It was missing the 2 disk label and no security tape on top. Compared it to my old faulty copy and the difference is amazing. So so much better. Colors are perfect, detail is amazing, contrast, blacks, everything. NO DNR AND NO EE. So so sweet!

The slipcovers are NOT a reliable indication of the remastered discs and the UPC code on the insert IS NOT yellow. Based on information culled from this thread these are the best physical indicators of the remastered discs:
  • There is no longer a white, titled security sticker on the top of the case.
  • The insert of the new disc no longer indicates "2-Disc Set" above the Paramount logo on the lower right hand corner. The code below the logo may be either 11111016515 or 11111016517. These numbers don't seem to be indicative of the remastered copies
  • The printed side of the disc now has a smooth dark gray finish as opposed to the grainy finish found on the "Braveheart" disc.
  • The inner mirror ring on the recorded side has the code NA13081B1R2.

Unfortunately, I got a headache searching for the number which supposedly exists on the mirror ring—I just can't see it. But based on the PQ, my disc has to be the remastered version. It is a striking difference from the original disc.

I checked my "Braveheart" disc for the "NA....." code and it is easy to find on its inner ring. However, my new copy of "Gladiator" DOES NOT have this code. and I am 100% certain it is a remastered copy. It looks vastly improved over the disc I unloaded on Ebay months ago.

My feeling is that this is a total crapshoot and the best way to get the remastered disc is to return your copy to Paramount. It is a shame the studio has chosen subterfuge in the reissue of this disc. There should be a clear indication of the reissue as in the "Saving Private Ryan" yellow UPC bar or the word "Remastered" indicated somewhere on the cover. Paramount is showing disregard for the consumer in their handling of this matter. I won't pre-order any Dreamworks or Paramount titles till they get their act together.

My launch day copy of gladiator from last year had the 11111016515 and the new one has the same so thats no way to tell. The slip cover has 11111016517 on it and the cover itself has 11111016515 .

Its already out in some places.

Read the last page or two to see a bunch of people finding it in their Best Buys.

Thats what my slipcover, and case had on it as well. What's your verdict? I didn't have the previous version so I don't know what to compare it to lol.

Yeah I couldn't find the number on the disc either, honestly I don't think its there. I don't have anything to compare it to since I didn't buy the previous version, but it looks good great. Some scenes however are a bit grainy.

I wish Paramount would've made their mistake more public instead of trying to keep it a big secret. It's clear they did this because they wanted to salvage some sales for the people that didn't know any better and to keep their respectability.

In Holland we have the Universal edition. The new mastering is released in the same steelbox package as the old one. I found on the net a new barcode and went to the shop. On the new ones they put a sticker with the new barcode. The discs are exact the same. Even the release year on the new discs is 2009. But I got a new print and wow: it's a much better and greater print than before.

Saving Private Ryan had an error. Gladiator does not. Also, The error in the first Saving Private Ryan was discovered a week after it was released. The first Gladiator was released eight months ago. It's apples and oranges.
