The new disc (dark grey) has the number NA13081B1 on the back of the disc. Which is why I say these numbers aren't a consistent qualifier for verifying you have the corrected disc. Maybe all old masters are NA13081B1R1 (this seems likely), but not all new masters are NA13081B1R2.

If I remember to when I get home, I'll post pictures of both cover inserts and both discs of the old and new copy side by side.

Hope that helps.
Hi Mike, I see a number of 103860B1 next the BD Layer text on the ring, no NA number. Is that number relevant? I really appreciate you taking the time to also post the pictures fo the disc.

I think the differences between the old and remastered version have been extensively covered here. However, I did find one more difference between the two that I didn't see anyone else mention so I thought I would point it out.

I picked up the new version earlier in the week. It has all the items that have been mentioned (no "2-DISC SET" on the back cover, disc is dark gray, and the inner-ring has R2). Besides the difference in picture quality, I noticed the new version has a promo at the beginning hyping the Sapphire Series showing clips from Gladiator, Braveheart, and Forrest Gump. I put my old version in and I did not see this promo.

So yet another difference between the two. If you see the Sapphire Series promo before you get to the main menu, you have the remastered version.

But how is it even possible getting the right one from online retail shops

I don't see the new version anywhere. Why are they not doing the same what disney did with "Gangs" it is no problem ordering that one.Everyone knows its this one to get
http://www.axelmusic.com/productDetails/786936800562

Why don't they just release it in the stores and online shops like that so "ALL" can buy it

can anyone please tell me this

This sounds like something you need to ask of Paramount. I'd email them and see if you can get a response.

In my opinion, no, these numbers don't mean anything. Like I said, I've seen different number being used to validate the corrected copy than what I have on my corrected copy.

Why go through all that trouble? I'd rather know what version it is before I buy it and open it.

I just sat down this morning and watched the film disc with R2 and all the pictures online of the new remastered copy matched what I saw on the disc. The quality of the new master is really above and beyond the old one.

ok, i apologize if someone's addressed this somewnere in the preceding 2000+ posts, but has anyone yet actually rec'd a new disc through the mail from paramount? could you describe it, including any numbers and/or letters in the ring on the recorded side and the color and lettering on the label? a picure would be even better. then anyone who's bought a supposedly remastered disc in a retail store can compare. i can't believe there would be multiple physical characteristics of the remastered discs that were all in fact the remastered version.
thanks.

...because that statment wasn't directed to you, but to someone (that I quoted) that already owns the movie and wasn't sure?

Olive, no one's received a disc from Para yet. I wouldn't anticipate one for another couple of weeks.

I sent the original version back last Saturday so I would think I'll be seeing the new one within the next two weeks.

The Post Office refused to allow me to add delivery confirmation because the padded enveloped I used didn't meet their 3/4" or more thickness requirement. The clerk said "if you want delivery confirmation - just send it certified". So I let her talk me into sending it certified. It apparently made it to Valencia, CA this morning, but the status now reads "Notice Left" with following information:

I hope I'm not the only one who sent certified due to the stupid thickness requirement for delivery confirmation and that they actually get the notice to pick up my package from wherever they are keeping it locked up.

I am willing to bet money that every remastered disc is the same. People saying their copy doesn't have this number or that, I think they are just not seeing it. There is no feasible reason for the discs to be different, and once u start a run of discs in replication, they use ONE master. Why would they spend extra money making multiple copies when there is no relevant need to?

Sorry for the poor quality, I had to take these with my phone.

IMG00138-20100806-1443.jpg

The first is the old disc, the second is the new remastered disc. If you look at the bottom right you can see the text above the Paramount logi is not on the second copy.

IMG00139-20100806-1444.jpg

Top disc is the remastered version.

And again, the number on the disc is NA13081B1, so take that for what you will.

so there is a definite difference in the disc from the old and new versions.

looks like the new version has white writing and a dark grey background.

thanks for the pix!!!

Thanks!!! That's the number I have on my disc! I also noticed someone posted something about previews for Braveheart, Forrest Gump, and Gladiator. Mine has that as well so it sounds like I have the re-mastered version The only thing mine was missing from all these qualifiers was the NAXXXR2 number.

It sounds like it is safe to recommend the discs at Bestbuy that do not have '2-Disc Set' above the Paramount logo on the lower right hand corner and not security tape on the top. These are clearly the re-mastered version based on all the feedback I've read and that I've posted.

Thanks to everyone that contributed to fleshing this out!

FYI... I cannot believe the time I wasted looking for that stupid NA number that did not exist on my disc. At one point I thought I was going crazy until I looked at Braveheart and the confirmation from this post from another Bestbuy purchaser.
