Well I'd much rather have 1080p than 720p; given that option 1 doesn't differentiate between the two it's clear I'll have to pick option 2.

You should have split them up. How many more polls are we going to have on this issue?

Nobody with a good HDTV wants to start seeing 720p Blu-ray releases.
